It's personal, and/but it's also collective. We (I) need to start thinking more this way about people who won't do shit about climate or fascism or etc. They'd rather have a good career and able to afford expensive entertainment and eateries and vacations and toys (cars/electronics/etc).
The pain of abandonment or betrayal by the people who should have our back is awful. No need to deny it or disown it. And also no need to turn their abandonment or betrayal into a reason to abandon, betray, or sabotage ourselves. That won't help or fix or soothe anything.
"the center (or, center-right in this case) never holds to fascism... if you govern like the “right-wing lite,” people will eventually vote for the party offering the actual, full right-wing deal. This is how and why we see the liberal, milquetoast center collapsing literally everywhere." - H. Walia
Here's other good commentary re British Columbia election: "Say what you will about the American cesspit, but there's at least a direct awareness among a larger fraction of the populace that we're in a fight with irredeemable monsters. The "we're too civilized for that" shit that infests Canada..."
Canadians had 10 years to recover from smug lib disease and realize democracy is a sham and we're all in a global fight to the death with fascists, but on the same day that neonazis openly rallied in front of the BC capital...

"Either we win. Or we win. You've been warned." - Bolsonaro party member Nikolas Ferreira. Sounds ominous. From the Guardian live coverage: "Bolsonaro’s campaign is showing signs that it may be preparing the ground not to concede if he is defeated." www.theguardian.com/world/live/2...
Other corporate interference in Brazil election, report from @theintercept.com Brasil [auto-translate]: Microsoft displays fake news about Lula on Windows and MSN portal Content was made by a partner site of the platform, which has among its members a candidate for federal deputy by the PL in 2022
"research published Friday shows that Instagram is “actively boosting” Bolsonaro and conservative content in the days ahead of the country’s high-stakes runoff election." Note that WhatsApp is really where it's at in Brazil... It is also owned by Meta. #MediaConcentration #ForeignInterference #Coup
"Meta is interfering in Brazil’s elections in plain sight—boosting Bolsonaro and suppressing Lula content."

In the year of 2026, who is funding feminism? @theflytrapmedia.com, @lafronde.bsky.social, @mothership.blog, and @readlux.bsky.social are betting that people will. They're building a new media ecosystem for feminist cultural reporting and critique. buff.ly/qV2Xwvp

Probably not sexy or appealing to talk about, but: Go back 3-4 years and find people warning about how society-wide long-term impairment from multiple COVID infections was going to cause more vehicle accidents / collisions. There's no specific person/policy to blame on that aspect of the problem.
Pay for the Bahamas cruise, go to Halifax “I think we are halfway to the North Pole, where Santa Claus is from.“ Other tourists were less optimistic... “I’m very disappointed, I am already from Canada, and I wanted to go to the Bahamas.” @ctvnews-mirror.bsky.social

What the heck is happening on Ottawa's roads?!🚨 4 fatalities of vulnerable road users in 6 days. A driver rams into a bakery. 4 collisions involving serious injuries yesterday. And today, another pedestrian killed in Barrhaven. Am I the only candidate in this election talking about this? 1/
Of course it was George Soros, not the far-right people who hype the Soros conspiracies and actually were "dark" #ForeignInfluence in the Alberta referendum. And of course #RebelNews gets to lead off the questions at an Alberta press conference. Because why not?
Premier Smith's press conference begins with a question from Rebel News on if she will appoint an investigator to look into George Soros' interfering in the Alberta referendum and looking into Forever Canadian's "dark money". She uh says no.
Ottawa municipal candidates could learn a lot: "COPE proved it could devastatingly message and mobilize against a multimillion-$ political machine... COPE also made a major concession to the Greens... when its own mayoral candidate... suspended her campaign to avoid splitting the progressive vote"
@nolore.bsky.social after listening to today’s Sandy and Nora I wanted to highlight an article about the Vancouver election. I’ll admit I am part of COPE and it feels good to have good press about us for once, but the plan we started after Sean was Elected worked. thetyee.ca/Analysis/202...
And here's the most recent poll, from Quoros Consulting. The undecideds were 33%, but of those with a preference: Sutcliffe 42% Leiper 35% Saravanamuttoo 10% Lawson 7% others 6% But #NeilForMayor is saying "it's anyone's race". All bsky replies are asking him to drop out bsky.app/profile/neil...

*: Sutcliffe's revised website for the current election campaign has no land acknowledgement at all, at least not on the main page where it used to be, nor anywhere else I could see. **The article (by me) about the Protocol quoted in the previous post screenshot is here: archive.org/details/algo...
Anyway here is the actual #Ottawa #mayor debate by CBC with Mark Sutcliffe, Jeff Leiper, Neil Saravanamuttoo, and Alex Lawson. #AllWhitePanel I listened to about half; not very exciting. But when they got to the "yes/no" questions, the answers sure weren't direct "yes" or "no" for the most part lol

Malcolm Gladwell on CBC "The Current" this morning on his new book "The American Way of Killing": (paraphrase) 'People need to understand that police in USA are massively understaffed/funded. When there are more police, they're much better behaved; when there are less police, they're more violent.'
"Before there was Black Lives Matter, there was Malcolm Gladwell writing a book to absolve NYC cops of shooting Amadou Diallo 41 times" "Prior to his fame, Gladwell was put through a series of right-wing internship and training programs to ensure he would appeal to the public with precise messages"

bad news Appeal court refuses to expand duty to consult in pivotal federal UNDRIP case Kebaowek [Anishinabe Algonquin] First Nation loses; approval upheld for nuclear waste dump near Ottawa River The court says UNDRIP doesn't override Canadian law until the gov't establishes a process for it to.
A "terrorist camera" as the IDF like to say. Seriously that is what they say to legitimize attacking/killing journalists.
Masked Israeli settlers attacked Palestinian villagers on Friday, setting olive groves on fire and slinging rocks. Caught in the attack was Post photographer Heidi Levine. “They just kept kicking me and kicking me, like probably 50 times,” Levine said. https://wapo.st/4yt6dHY
I was going to share the CBC article about this yesterday. TL;DR the parallel is, if you bomb a Google data centre, yes it will in fact take down a lot of automated activity online (aka 'bots') but it doesn't mean you took out all the disinfo agents in the USA.
Ukraine took out Yandex, (aka Russia's Google). Contrary to viral posts, this did NOT reduce the number of far-right social media posts. That was just misinformation about misinformation. skepchick.org/2026/10/ukra...

News report was implying Musk is throttling Ukraine's use of Starlink, but... maybe sabotage is what is causing it. Interesting an ex-Ukrainian military is now on trial (war crime charges) for sabotaging the Nordstream pipeline at the bottom of the sea. Infrastructure attacks aren't only one-sided
11 of 17 Starlink antennas were set on fire at a guarded facility near Sofia, Bulgaria. Two masked individuals reportedly carried out the attack. Infrastructure supporting Ukraine is being targeted across Europe with growing frequency. At what point does “concern” become a response?
imagine a social media world where adults didn't scold other adults "I don't care what the situation is: Adults don't scold other adults. Not if they want to be in relationships built on mutual respect. Period. End of."
