the shitty discovery tab does, but the actual home one doesn't

I mean I've seen random political stuff on the discover tab, but also people talk about politics everywhere, just follow people you like and use the proper feeds. This place is much better than Twitter, no matter how you look at it.

Bluesky sucks, all I see are cool people like Jocat, Girl_DM_, and Temmie. I want to see lamer people so I can feel better about my place in life.

It's also really silly when the "Discover" and "Popular with Friends" feeds exist AND there's an option in settings to periodically place posts from other feeds you follow into your main feed.

the discover tab is dogshit and anyone who uses this site regularly will tell you that. this post is about having to follow people to fill the following tab with people's posts because that's the best way to find posts on this website.

Naw, its on them. If ur feed is filled with those posts then people you follow either post or repost that content and thats on u. If you are following nobody and only using the discover feed, you’ll see the default popular content which is often furry/nsfw. So go follow ppl and find feeds you like.

If this is true then that’s definitely a problem. I’m not gonna deny that this place has its flaws, even if I have my reasons for liking it more than bird app. But hopefully these issues can be brushed up on in the future. This is a weird thing to say tho. Not sure why it always comes back to this.

How? I only see the things I want to see in Follow and when I want to stop seeing certain things, I unfollow them.

In my experience, the Search function might skew too much into NSFW material, such as with #blacksky a lot of the times I've searched that hashtag. But as for your Discovery feed...naw that kinda is on you 🫣; mine went from artist centric to more political when I started following those accounts.

If its still SOMEHOW getting thru you can mute words. I'm mutuals with a few people who make posts I don't wanna see. I mute related words, and I *never* see these posts, and I get to follow them.

If your Following tab is full of furry porn, stop following people who make furry porn? It's not difficult

Jo follows 800 people. Thats 800 people you could follow. That would more than quintuple your follow list.

The best thing we can do is not give attention to these people, bluesky has its problems? Yes, it have, but at least it isn't stupid and doesn't have many useless (Some even harmful) features like Twitter/X.

yo. Following stuff you like is easy, empowering, and fun. I *never* see posts I don't want to, because I use the tools at my disposal. This is more choice, more options, not less! Give it a shot, grab some starter packs or feeds, and block words you don't like.

At first BS sucks, you need some time to teach It your preferences.

I recommend pinning this bsky.app/profile/did:... and this bsky.app/profile/did:... which are great ways of broadening your feed, I saw on your profile that ya like art and vocaloid stuff, bsky.app/profile/jami... is active and reports a lot of rad stuff, and for art bsky.app/profile/rj-p...

I don't know how people are getting the stuff they don't want when every tool I need (for the most part) allows me to curtail it to exactly what I WANT to see. Sure some individuals slip through but that's the worst of it.

Yeah that's a step 2 people can do to further curate their experience. Suggesting blocking first though to clean discovery so people can have an easier time finding people they want to follow that the third party tools didn't find. Getting their follows sorted will have them more likely to stay.

After thinking on this, I have to apologize. I took JoCat's intention to help people and made my post elitist. I failed to specify, regardless of posts after with post space in the one above, and didn't inform that discovery will have things you won't like at first. "You have to do it like this!"
