Have you heard they are working on a redesign? I'm optimistic it'll improve the UX a fair bit. Great article, hope more people make the move :)

Glad it is working for you. I am bound to use 1password for work for some time now and have kept bitwarden as my “personal” thing. It works, and I don’t feel bad about using it. That is more than enough for me.

I appreciate you sharing this experience. I've been using 1P for my family for as long as I can remember, a combination of it once being a very stand-up app with bonus points for being Canadian. For a handful of reasons I've soured on them, but still appreciate being a Canadian entity... 1/2

... in fact that's the second reason I've held of really exploring an alternative. The other being unsure of how hard or easy it would be the migrate. 2/2

I recently cancelled my 1password account and switched to NodeWarden (self hosted vault) and BitWarden extensions and apps. UI is rough but I choose to look past it.

The migration test that matters is the least technical family member: if vault import works but daily unlock or autofill needs explanation, the switch is not finished. Which UX nit showed up most outside your own workflow?

:D also yeah I'm hopeful for the redesign mentioned earlier

Thanks for writing this up. I am about to embark on the same path so it’s good to know it’s not bad. (I will be migrating about 8 people in my family, some to Apple passwords the rest to Bitwarden.)

Thanks for this. I don't use 1PW on my phone, but I expect that most of the under-the-hood stuff is similar, so it's nice to hear the switch is not too painful.

I tried Bitwarden once and their UX is so awful that I am still thinking whether a switch is reasonabl. Especially that it is not only for me, but for my less-techie family as well.
