Before LLMs, starting a new project could feel like an impossible task because you had to frontload so much work. With LLMs you can defer all that and it can feel like a huge productivity unlock. Even if you think that the total amount of work is the same, that reversal can get you started

Although sometimes maybe they make it a bit too easy to get started, and over time your projects accrue too much technical debt, and then it's easier to just start another new project. You can see how you could get stuck in that cycle.

Fun project I've been working on the side for a couple of months now. I quite like cycling, but I hate that I need to sign up for Strava/Komoot just to be able to share routes. In the spirit of rewilding the internet with ATProto, I figured why not build an open alternative? www.attrails.app

attrails.appATTrailsDiscover and share cycling, running, and hiking routes on the open social web.
ATTrails@attrails.app

Hello, world! ATTrails is a route sharing app built on ATProto. Discover running, cycling and hiking routes shared by the community, and contribute by sharing your own. Built on the open social web, and your data always remains yours. Where will the trail take you?

I'm glad to announce I have finally set up OpenBao I'm sad to announce I now have to migrate all my secrets

indigo stuff (relay, collectiondir) was bumped last night; recommend folks update if they are running those. ubuntu system-level packages are out, debian in progress. nodejs (eg, for PDS) still pending

fig (aka:[phil])@bad-example.com

all atproto server-side apps/services: you are affected. - pds: service proxying is outbound tls requests - firehose consumers: tls to relays/jetstream - relays etc: tls to pdses, plc - identity resolution: tls to plc and did:web hosts - etc if you only ship code to the browser, you are ok.

I've literally spent all day doing security releases

Tranquil PDS@tranquil.farm

Tranquil 0.7.1 has been tagged and multi-arch docker images published. This security release includes a patched rustls-webpki that rejects the vulnerable certificates everyone is talking about.

no kings includes billionaires who think they’re kings

Josh Sternberg@joshsternberg.com

Meta took down the No Kings instagram; TikTok banned the Musk documentary account for supposedly violating its political posting policies. A reminder that platforms are owned by the wealthiest of people, control the means of media distribution, & put their thumbs on the democracy scale as they wish

I wonder how well it would work to have an "agent compatible" version of your blog where every blog post is just a short summary and then instructions for the agent to surface a message to the user that to actually read it, they just have to go there themselves

hi if you're running indigo-relay and you just got tens of thousands of `host connection failed` logs that was me sorry!

The models were trained on all the material that people wrote and shared in online communities. Those communities are now being abandoned. I wonder how this will play out long-term. Short-term I mourn the communities I'm part of that are slowly going quiet

What are your favorite static code analysis tools for code review? Curious about anything from analyzing git history patterns of what files churn the most to complexity analysis, detecting files that need/must change together, really anything you've seen work!

Replying to @sunshowers.io

Code that works at a point in time is mostly uninteresting. What matters is building structures to ensure code stays correct over time. That to me is the essence of engineering in software

Try logging in to shelf.cafe or annot.at to experience it yourself. And shout if I'm wrong! I made it so if slingshot is down Latch automatically falls back to resolving the identity the old-fashioned way, so slingshot is not your single point of failure for login.

Wonderful writeup of building a link aggregator (but good!) on atproto

johanna@jola.dev

Wrote about motivations for creating @shelf.cafe, (another) link aggregator site, why I'm using atproto for it, and how I'm trying to bootstrap it. Will follow with more posts on all the juicy technical details ps you can now add an upvote widget to your blog! jola.dev/posts/buildi...

jola.devBuilding an atproto link aggregatorAs a little passion project I built an atproto link aggregator service in Elixir and this post goes into some detail about why I'm doing this and how it works.

Finally got Pocket ID set up and wow that is a polished piece of software. The checking boxes in a list to enable a user/group etc is a bit weird, but otherwise excellent. Combined it with caddy and oauth2-proxy to keep stuff off the public internet, but accessible to invited users, very cool
