A capitalist economic system requires constant concentration and monopolization to prevent the rate of profit from falling. Private equity is nothing but capitalism at its very finest. It has never been anything better then it is now, just less fully developed. It absolutely cannot be fixed.

Alberta Conservative MP Michelle Rempel Garner brings up the Bioware closure in the House of Commons ... and frames it within the debate about immigration anxiety in some parts of Canada.

While I respect the anti-private equity stance, I feel like now that BioWare is officially done, people are already putting on their rose-tinted glasses. BioWare devs have already openly admitted that their games only come together in the 0 hour, and rely on massive crunch. We didn't lose geniuses

It sounds like BioWare needed better management. They obviously had talented creators working there, but if the leaders lack vision, it’s never gonna come together. I don’t understand the VC/PE approach of canning everything rather than letting management go and keeping the team

That approach is from the private equity way of doing business. It's mostly about extracting value, not creating a value engine. Private Equity is never going to fire itself for fucking up, it's only going to pay itself a bonus. But that fall from BioWare happened years ago. This is the final nail

thing is, we did. genuis artists and storytellers - but we didn't just lose them now. we lost them all along the way. first we lost them as "stress casualties" and now the survivors have been sacked on top of that. it's been extraction all along, this is just the final insult upon the injury
