yeah we're a corrupt mess. gigabit is very spotty here. In markets with no competition it's usually $100-$150. In places where community broadband appears it mysteriously drops to around $70.

Oh shit, its sad to hear that, something that essential as Internet shouldn’t be this expensive, but here we got this low prices because there is a lot of competition.

That is awesome! Is it a gig 𝙪𝙥 as well? Google fiber keeps advertising a 2 gig upgrade, but it's only download; the up stays at 1.

Qwest (now Centurylink/Lumen) tried VERY hard to harass and lobby and sue the network out of existence, but ultimately failed because the public was so sick of their shit

It took years to come to fruition. The legislature fought it repeatedly. Some muni networks (like Provo) failed, and gave Utopia a black eye by association. Getting to where they are now took more than a decade of work and court cases.

yeah 17 states still have restrictions lobbied for by telecom monopolies. Though several states realized the ignorance of those restrictions during COVID, and eliminated them (Washington State, Arkansas)

It's not quite this cheap, but in Fort Collins, CO GB ethernet runs $70 which is about half what I pay in Phoenix for much slower, capped internet :-( And yes this is because FC has it's own fiber network.
