It's become harder to defend them on this front lately. "Moderation at scale is difficult" and all but there's a bit too many odd choices.

they really need a strong, working comms team that can effectively communicate choices and argue for reversals when things are getting ugly

The fact I only ever hear about this from outrage posting is not great. The CEO's crash out not long ago also was another sign they gotta be grown ups now and defer to a comms team.

having developers and programmers randomly comment complex social interactions is just not good I know techies think this can all be automated, but public communications is an actual skill

I sympathize that most of the life of this site it was either empty or had barely anyone using it so you could get away with acting like a family but the upper limit to that is very low.
