he outlines this massive surveillance society under the pretense that ethical, responsible people will be in charge, undermined by his effort to cement a permanent zealot kakistocracy in a country too corrupt to have working regulators or corporate accountability of any kind

What a terrifying and dystopian vision of the future by the guy who is about to own a huge swath of everything on our screens. This is from 2024.

these people are broadly evil but I also genuinely think most of them are genuinely very stupid and stumbled ass first into extreme wealth

like obviously part of him wants to build a giant unethical surveillance apparatus in exclusive service to the extraction class, but another part of him is just kind of functionally fucking stupid about how tech and ethics operate and overlap?

like who is this mythological human presence at the end of the line of AI hyper surveillance imposing any sort of ethics in a country that's too corrupt to function and led by extremists who operate at a fifth-grade reading level? You? You're not qualified and you're going to be dead soon, dipshit.

The amount of privilege in the way he and others like him navigate the world is the root of this problem. He believes this solutions will work because that’s the way the world works for him. It’s very much a “let them eat” cake level of disconnect with the average person and the world they live in.

completely cooked brains from decades of being coddled by sycophancy great idea, sir you've really outdone yourself this time, sir

Why isn't the off the cuff response to this sort of surveillance utopianism "you first." Like, proportionally how much technology is online in the Ellison manse, conveyances and on his own person to ensure he's on his "best behavior" at all times. Why can't Dealbook et al ever deal out that.
