billionaires repeatedly buy and destroy communications platforms to dominate information flow this week's 🙄 Bluesky silo redux discourse downplays that people of sense and empathy were chased here unwillingly and are focused on survival and connection, not revolution

"The general consensus I see from Bluesky users is a sort of indigence or confusion as to why the rest of the world is trapped in a right-wing echo chamber that they don’t care about. It’s because their little doomsday bunker has not really affected the apocalypse raging beyond their walled garden"

Thanks for this whole thread. My feelings exactly. Apparently I'm supposed to make myself miserable by going over to Twitter and arguing all day long in some vain effort to achieve some vague goal. No thanks.

"you're won't change the world on Bluesky" Have you BEEN out there? It's wall to wall Theo Von dullards and nazi androids with maralago face on billionaire platforms custom-built to undermine progressive reform and authentic connection. I don't understand what's being asked of Bluesky users.

this week's bluesky punditry was akin to running up to a bunch of war refugees huddled over ramen noodle pots in their shitty makeshift camps and yelling at them for not being more impactful on the global stage what the fuck are you on about

my entire internet life has been spent running from one shitty billionaire ruined platform to another Bluesky will inevitably be ruined by rich assholes too running up and yelling "bubble!" at people taking a five second breather from this insufferable cycle is annoying and inane

this whole week of Bluesky discourse is once again just very weird like this is not only a strange generalization, you could easily say this about America as a whole just a lot of ambiguous angst about bluesky with no actual solution. are you wanting people to go to substack? Threads?

AMEN! I’m a small account but I will never understand the constant yammering about the site itself. Just use it as you please or don’t. There are so many more interesting and critical issues to discuss.

Not everything has to be useful™... Nothing about expecting social media of all things to be useful is healthy. When was social media good? When it was about helping us connect with other people for fun. It all turned to shit when people started trying to save the world with witty repartee.

it's ok to just be here and joke and talk to people and try to retain some sanity it's a fucking well-funded hellscape out there right now. I don't understand what these folks are demanding bluesky users do.

Hang out,... Get in arguments with people who you broadly agree with. Take a breath. Feel less alone for a minute. Twitter sucks in part because journalists desperately wanted it to be integral to society so it got coopted by fascists. I don't give a shit if fascists think this place sucks.

What I don't get whenever this comes up is this: There is a guy whose stated objective is to use every lever of power under his control to manipulate the world around him to get his way. And in order to do this, he has made a bet--

He is betting that he doesn't even have to maintain the levers of power he controls. His industrial products can be catered to his whims and no one elses; his media platforms can exists as a way to promote what he wants and suppress what he despises; and as a result of this, no one will/should care

He and anything he touches can be as busted as he can muster and because there is a plausibility of nostalgia or competence or whatever, the people with stated principles will tolerate all this and be willingly manipulated into tolerating this, to his direct benefit.

Still every week I hear huge American, non-toxic influencers complain how much they hate Twitter, just want a place where they can talk to online friends and íf they take action; it's them silent quitting social media... ... like... wtf? Just move your asses to Bluesky. It's not X or nothing.🤦‍♂️

I'm sure open to some revolutionary (outside the box) ideas on saving this experiment in self-governance. And yes, daily survival and connections as, together, we SEE the truth. Pissed off.

I'm here because I want to be here, and not there anymore. Every other platform has algorithms that push content I don't generally care to engage with, and prevent others from engaging with mine. So why even bother? Waste of time.
