I suspect the strategy of "AI might kill us all" is intended to blunt the actual effects of "Your job will be replaced by AI." When it ends up being overblown, people will say the threat wasn't so bad even as they're unemployed.

the tech press coverage of this guy was a hot mess didn't specify he doesn't really have the expertise or experience to make doomsday predictions didn't provide any actual evidence of a mass-extinction event didn't ask him if he voted for the corrupt sociopath gutting our cybersecurity defenses

As I warned you: the superstar media darling AI quitter is explicitly agreeing with Trump and claiming climate threats are "overplayed". Effective altruism / rationalism is a cult of broken priorities that denies the threat of fossil fuels. This is why Anthropic loves burning gas for power.

just endless sensationalized hyperbolic clickbait headlines candidly informing the public they're all about to die at the hands of auto-evolving swarms of sentient software, despite there's simply no evidence any of this is actually true and the whistleblowers provided no actual evidence

I think the entirety of the U.S. corporate press needs to be burned to the ground and replaced with perhaps some Krispy Kremes and a few new roller rinks until we can figure out how to rebuild a media that actually serves the public interest

Which is really harmful because it will end up discrediting those who do know of actual risks (almost certainly not existential but maybe material) somewhere down the line. ‘Climate alarmism’ dismissals of CC is a direct result of this kind of behavior (media hypes worst outcome as inevitable).

Instant cottage industry of grift took over the YouTube feed overnight. If you click one, you will then see tons of "7 Signs You Have Cancer" videos start showing up too. "But China" isn't working. Debts are coming due. They need you to believe THEIR existential crisis is YOUR existential crisis.

Algorithms manipulated to make you panic. AI cults sending evangelists to spew apocalypse drivel to any oligarch-captured corporate media that will broadcast it for them, which is all of them. Coupled it with "diagnose yourself with terminal disease" videos to enhance the emotional manipulation.

Software can only follow instructions, so whatever "human behaviors" these charlatans are yelling about had to have been programmed in. "Oh no, it broke out of containment and hacked the webservers!!!" Yeah stupid, cause you told it to.

"The country is now under the control of a purely self-serving sociopath dead set on dismantling whatever's left of corporate and white collar criminal oversight." I feel like this is a completely crazy thing to claim, and yet it's all right there. None of the major headlines want to just say this.

@karlbode.com Altman “We could lose control” could just just as easily be an admission that they are seeking - and achieving - levels of control over *people* that are unprecedented, and that the possibility of losing that control is the thing that keeps them all up at night.

My immediate feeling when I saw Altman talking about needing regulation was that his intention was to create protectionist garbage because he doesn't want to face real competition. I don't think either party is going to get this right even if they come to some kind of agreement.

Anyone who worries about Skynet style terminators hunting us down and exterminating humanity needs to watch a video of self driving cards trying to exit a parking lot. AI may well kill us all, but not for the reasons they think.
