not that I don't think they're capable, but Democrats coming to power and immediately holding oligarchs and corporate power meaningfully accountable is a big assumption

I think if we're talking a Gavin Newsom or Mark Kelly President most of the rhetoric will be about "turning the corner" and "building a better tomorrow." They might restore science grants and prosecute people for boat murders, but fully holding rich assholes accountable isn't really their thing

I'm very much in a "I have to see it to believe it" phase when it comes to both trusting the U.S. electorate, and trusting that the Democrats will have learned any sort of concrete lesson on unchecked corporate power and oligarch-backed fascism

It’ll depend on the voting public and how much they push for it. I’m 100% in on it. The best time to have restrained billionaire oligarchs power was yesterday. The next best time is now. We won’t keep getting chances.

when he was stumping for trump in the last presidential election, Musk is the one who floated the notion he’d get thrown in jail of dems won. (biden admin & trump 1.0 admin both initiated probes of musk cos. but never enforced laws in any way that ever seriously impeded his companies or him.)

It will be tricky, with the DOJ having been corrupted at the top and Trump still in power with SCOTUS support. The public wants immediate relief from the untenable cost of living and it will be difficult to deliver that without the WH. Any circus of hearings re corruption is likely to anger people.
