deno desktop is INSANELY thorough. I assumed it would be super basic but it's actually a real electron killer. Notifications, DMGs, support for bundled CEF (Electron style) and native WebView (Tauri style), Auto-updater, multi-window support, and on and on. @deno.land cooked so hard with this one.

I’ve never personally wanted it but I think the main use case would be if you also have a web version of your app so it already has to be optimized for all browsers. But I’m glad Deno ships with CEF out of the box bc it works best for like 80 to 90% of use cases.

You already do that if you maintain a web version of your app. There are very few cases where cef makes sense. WebKitGTK is one of them, it's the worst. For example WebRTC stuff doesn't work properly at all.

Answered this on twitter a few weeks ago when the Deno team showed me what they were working on. I'm glad I'm inspiring people. Electrobun 2.0 brings the same modular innovation I shipped for the renderer (system, CEF, WGPU) to the main process enabling Deno, Bun, Node, Zig, Rust, and Go.

the biggest advantage imo is not having to fiddle so much with rust and having it built into the runtime with no config required. you can literally just run the command and it's there.
