tbf this doesn’t give a lot of credit to people that are celebrities BECAUSE they‘re great voice actors. some people voice act cause they’re famous and others are famous because they voice act
The scope of comprehension of the greatest minds alive combined is insufficient to encompass the antipathy contained in a single hair on my body for Chris Pratt.
It becomes even worse when you realise literally every movie he appears in is him playing a dumb everyman who the competent smart girl protagonist falls in love with despite his flaws. Every time. *Including the Mario movie.* In Tomorrow War it was his daughter, too!
audience hearing a celebrity voice actor role: i can't believe they casted this guy
audience hearing a Kyle Herbert role: WHO is that???? he sounds so familiar???? i know i've heard him in other stuff before????? wow okay it's HIM???? no way! that's crazy.
just to be clear, this is a supportive joke about trained voice actors having a wide ranging talent that delights audiences when they discover who the actor is, not a dig at my fave Kyle the GOAT
I remember watching Assassination Classroom about six months ago. Great show but Koro Sensei sounded very familiar, especially to my Dragon Ball-loving wife. Sure enough, it was Sonny Strait, Krillin himself. That was badass to discover...
im reminded of the alternate of a celebrity being in a tv show episode as a guest appearance, but they CLEARLY didnt care to be there and just wanted the paycheck and nobody on the crew bothered for 2nd takes.
Which can be fine if you gave an interesting and distinctive voice.
But...I'm not rocking up to listen to Scarlet Johansen do her best middle aged white American woman voice.
I still cringe at HTTYD 2 getting Kit Harrington to play a role when he *clearly* didn't have the experience to be a voice actor. I feel like it's mostly comedians or actors used to playing more "eccentric" characters that can even do a serviceable job in VA without taking a bunch if classes first.
Still mad at live action Lilo and Stitch casting Zach Galifinakis and telling him "Nah, it's cool. You don't have to do the accent or emote even the tiniest amount."
I definitely won't deny they really should've recasted him, but I also don't think any of us would be willing to listen to his Martinet-style voice for one and a half hours :/
I wonder if needing to match whatever Sean Gunn was doing on set encouraged that.
If it's a drawing on a screen, you're inclined to just roll with it. But needing to redo the lines already acted with reactions from other cast members?
Don't wanna hear 'Oh, Sean read that line way better on set'
