Judging from the replies, an astounding number of people still cannot grasp that "taking all the prominent liberal and progressive voices and putting them on a remote island where no ordinary people or institutions interact with them will reduce the political influence of liberals and progressives"

It's hard to avoid the conclusion that Bluesky has been a net negative for US politics. They corralled everyone on the left into a little glass fishbowl where they shout at one another & everyone else ignores them. Meanwhile, all the pols & institutions stayed on X & are being dragged farther right.

I don’t think people disagree with that so much as people disagree with the implication that keeping them in the torture chamber of X (where, let’s be clear, due to algorithm changes they no longer had any real influence anyway) would somehow have been better for anyone involved

I think it’s natural to read that claim when someone specifically calls the lifeboat “a net negative” instead of using that label for the iceberg

But I'm not exiled, I used Twitter for a brief period in 2020, didn't care for it, and didn't touch it again until I deleted my account. I don't want algorithmic social media.

Same, never got into Twitter. I just think I wasn't ready for this kind of social interaction yet. I only signed up for BlueSky to try to recruit for a resistance org, but then I sort of liked it
