Substantive piece as usual! Apt b/c lately I’ve been interested in the spirit of the old web. LLMs affect it. It’s b/c of you I’ve actually started being more active online with intent. And we even had a nice and thoughtful discussion about your piece the other week. Just wanted to let you know! :)

digg.comA Love Letter To The Personal Website | The Old WebCongrats to us for passing 200 members!!! The first few days since we opened for the public beta of Digg has gotten me asking myself what used to be so fun about the internet? What am I experiencin...

I would love to agree with you, but companies are getting more aggressive about forcing developers to use AI to generate, test, and review code regardless of the developers' experiences. They see a cash cow and they're milking it for all its worth. We don't all get a choice in how it's used.

Great post, thanks for writing. The aside about the post office staff is sobering, and it’s good to be reminded.

1. I've been following a similar path to you 'using Copilot… Claude - as a sort of “spicy autocomplete”. Gradually I've been passing the jobs I don't like doing (Documentation) to AI keeping the ones I do for myself. But recently I created my own MCP server and using other peoples Claude skills.

2. The last few weeks I have been developing an application that would have taken months but instead is taking weeks. I feel very in control of every aspect of its development but… this is only because it's all within my area of expertise. I can check it's 'good work'. Also 'flammable trousers!' 😬

3. I feel like I'm in Pluribus being told 'Join us, you will love it'. I love writing code. But it does feel inevitable that at some point we will not. Perhaps we will 'code for fun like the old days' as a craft skill. Great article and you are not alone in how you feel.

Great post! The first couple of paragraphs really mirrored how I am starting to feel. I have been holding out against all these AI tools but have finally registered for Copilot at work. Curious to see how I feel about the “spicy autocomplete”…

I enjoyed your piece. My employer has been getting more and more aggressive about pushing us to stop writing code manually and let AI generate, test, and review the code with us as the quality control folks at the end of the assembly line. I can't help feeling as though this won't end well.

I read this and it was one of the things that made me want to post my article! I forgot to link to it, I'll update the post.
