I've always believed Oxford Street could be so much more than a road. Today we begin a new chapter as the nation’s high street goes traffic free, creating a place where people can spend time, enjoy the atmosphere and experience the very best of our city.

This is brilliant! Thank you ( and in time for many of the autumn/ winter celebrations.) It will make people so much safer and make Oxford Street a much more enjoyable experience (with less vehicle emissions ) Hopefully it will bring in more people too . 🙏🌹

Many years ago I visited Oxford Street, wet day as I recall. Disliked it, footways jammed with people, noisy traffic, horrible experience, have not been back since. May be worth a trip now.

A plethora of AI facial recognition cameras, apparently. A no go zone for anyone who understands the problems with the tech.

Thank you! Can’t wait to see it. For the 46 years I’ve been visiting Oxford Street I’ve seen many changes. This is one of the best. There is so much excellent public transport in the area. The Bond Street Elizabeth Line link has been a game changer for that end of the street. 👍 #LoveLondon

this is a great decision , i hope there will be some exciting events happening in the newly reclaimed street.

Except trans people ofc. Your advertising for Potter at Oxford Circus is vile and deeply disrespectful to trans Londoners like myself.

Yep. Big fan of funding transphobia.

“The wand chooses the wizard.” 🪄 And in this case, it chose Oxford Street. Congratulations to Warner Bros on the UK’s largest Harry Potter shop. Another brilliant new destination for the West End, and proof that Oxford Street is well and truly on the up.

Hardly an advertisement; he linked the article which doesn't even mention him. People need jobs. I suppose you'd rather those people starve than work retail at a WB property?

In a prior life living as the dullest american in London, loving the no traffic high street on a Sunday where you stroll or in my case stumble down the street buying from the local shop stalls. Like Notting Hill montage but me perched on pavement pylon scarfing an egg & cress stuffed croissant.

It's a shame that so much effort has had to be made to achieve this. Other cities have pedestrianised and been very successful (although I'm not sure about Norwich, North Norfolk Radio isn't clear on the matter). Why not Oxford Street? Is it that the car/bus/taxi is still king for Conservatives?
