I love it when the clocks go back. I love the falling leaves, and the rain, and the chance to unpack all my sweaters and socks. I love lighting candles and incense. I love the windows seen from outside, where the shades of the past year cling to the walls and whisper their age-old secrets.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

💛💜 Today is Intersex Awareness Day. Most of us grew up learning that everyone is born either male or female, but human biology is a little more complicated than that, and that biological sex isn't always as straightforward as the boxes we're asked to tick.

Bolsonaro's loss is not just a loss for Bolsonaro. It's a loss for Trump. For Musk. For Milei. For Netanyahu. For Farage. For Meta and Zuckerberg. For the meat barons, the fossil fuel corporations, and the rest of the neocolonial looters. And it is a massive win for humanity and the living planet.

In the UK too: I regularly walk by a house flying that flag and it always makes me smile, knowing it might help show support and love for someone who otherwise feels alone, neglected, lost, unwanted, whatever. They're going to need a new flag soon, the current one is a bit wind-battered!

The NHS Guidance on trans people in hospital will protect zero women but will badly harm trans people. What a hateful disgrace and will be remembered by future generations as a stain on us all.

So we fly a pride flag in our front yard in a very conservative neighborhood and it’s been there for the last few years. Someone put this in our mailbox and my goodness…

I’m having a week in Paris. Just been to the local market, and was enchanted by the sight of a class of nursery aged children, holding hands in pairs, being taken to see the produce and buy vegetables. Each little child was wearing a painted paper chef’s hat with their name on. Absolutely adorable

"But I think I find Zelenskyy to be more difficult to deal with than Putin" Why? Because one is real and fights a desperate war for his country and people, while the other is a self-enriching megalomaniac not caring about his people, but so like yourself?” Trump IS a fan of the murdering 🇷🇺 bastard

The silence is deafening. I’ve been over on FB and all is calm, hardly any hate filled rants. No laughing at poor people who have drowned. No Taxi Service” comments . No “should ofs” instead of “should haves”. No there’s instead of theirs No are instead of our. Thank you Zelenskyy.

I can do an eerily accurate impression of a cat being sick.

Quote this with something you can do that is funny or impressive, but absolutely useless. I do a really good imitation of a pigeon.

Unsolicited writing advice, no. 8260: Whatever genre you write, read folklore. Folklore exists because at some point, people cared so much about a certain thing that they put it into a story, and passed it down the centuries in order to keep it alive. That deserves attention.

Today is World Day Against the Death Penalty. Let us seek to end this inhumane and immoral practice around the world, especially here in America. It is so deplorable that in the 21st century this is going on in a modern democracy.
