We have shifts in our n’hood. The little kiddos come out from around 6-7. The tweens & teens come around 7-8ish. I serve an average of 100 kids every year and half are teens! Many are with their parents which is cool! I’m happy to see them!

Any year I do Halloween (some years I’m not up to doing stairs 100 times in 3 hours), show up with an attempt at a costume and a good attitude and you get a smile & candy

I agree! Last year I gave the older kids what was left in my bowl. It was getting late and I heard one say he had to go home after my house. They were thrilled and I was happy to give the tempting morsels away 😂

I give candy to anyone who comes to my door, costume or not. Maybe they don’t have the resources or help to come up with a costume. Maybe this is one of the rare times they get treats. Maybe not. I don’t care. Give them their treats.

Honestly my feeling is that if people want a trick or treat then they should do so regardless of their age. It's not like I'm worried about them stealing the candy from the kids or anything if they are adults. I'm going to buy the same amount no matter who shows up so I'm going to be happy to give.

No, that is not the real complaint. Smashed pumpkins, egged cars, and them looking over your shoulder to case the house is the issue. Teenagers in Florida were vandals. In New Jersey they were a joy and I was happy to include them.

I agree. Happened a lot as my own kids got to their teens. Collecting candy in a costume just shows imagination. Better than stealing pumpkins and taking a baseball bat to mailboxes while drinking and cruising.

I'm 52 years old now My father gave me a ton of shit for not being grown up fast enough So when I was 13 I got my head in his game and grew up That motherfu*ker hated who I grew up into so at least I was able to have a stalemate where everyone lost at least...

I don’t care if you’re thirty. You’re in costume, you get a goody bag with a few mini candy bars, a plastic spider and a mini microwave popcorn.

I’m 40 years old and 5 foot tall. I will still put on a mask and trick or treat with the kids every single year. 🤫know one will ever know. It’s one damn day, it creates new adventures for some, nostalgia for others. Anyone complaining is lame… Take a breath, put on a costume, go touch grass.

The college I went to had many students show up at my parents house; before, during, and after I went there. Yes, I definitely handed out candy to people I knew were 20 something. Same goes for my aunts that live near another college.

Ooh! Wish I could do the same. I’m 3 months short of 80. I’m only 4.10. But l live in a 55plus gated community ( which I highly regret am desperately trying to get out of) would love to go back to a community where people of all ages live. And I’d have the best treats in the neighborhood.

Agree! I told her to make a classic ghost costume from a bedsheet and nobody will know or care. She's less interested in the candy and more interested in running around with everyone while dreesed up! I have a feeling she's going to come to my house. I hope she does.

When our daughter was in high school we hosted 2 French girls visiting with Boston their orchestra. It was Halloween. I had a friend who is fluid in French write out an explanation of the day. They dressed up from our collection, joined my daughters group had their first truck or treat experience

💯 Honestly, I bought the candy with the expressed intention of giving it all away. If that goes to cute little kids, big kids, their parents, or whoever…fine by me. Every Halloween is a judgement free holiday at our house.

I live in a very diverse neighborhood. Someone on this tread said they went to Costco and got some candy. I think I will make up so small bags and give them away. It has been a very sad year and this might just be the ticket I need. It is the best day of the year.

Hey, right on! They absolutely want kids growing up too fast. I remember being turned away and shamed I desperately needed to grow up. I was 11.

I actually buy special treats for the teens. they get a bag of chips and a bottle of water along with the candy. They love the chips. Teenagers are fun bask in that teenage glory.

When teens come to our door at 9 pm my husband dumps the rest of the candy into their bags. One year our son and a friend went to a house and they ran out of candy. The homeowner gave them Spaghetti O's. Happy. They are still talking about it 15 years later.

Hmm..I did that one year. I bought 3 bags of candies, and no kids. I end up eating 3 big ass bags of candies for many years to come. Then, the next year, my porch light was vandalized by the neighborhood kid....same kid 3x....and I & others donated to help his family purch'ed that home they live.

how old? junior high? that's much more childhood than it is anything remotely resembling adulthood. High school? That's trying to grapple with the adult world, maybe not very well, but trying.

Also if any adults come, they can have some freaking candy to! the world is on fire, everything is terrible, I will give you free candy. I don't care if your 5 or 50, or 105.

We set out candy, cereal cups, snacks , breakfast bars on a table outside and the littles take their candy and leave but the teens always make note of the real food and are always so appreciative. Wish we could do it every day.

What you said got me thinking about adult stress relieving it by throwing parties eating more desserts and dipping into the whimsical side of oursleves, even if it's for 10 minutes day!

Yes, agree! I had over 275 trick-or-treaters last year. I give out treat bags with candy & small toys. I have a bowl of just candy and when the 12-18 or so crowd come I ask if they want a bag with a little toy/candy or dig in the candy bowl & they overwhelmingly love the bags. You are never 2 old.🎃

Absolutely. I'm in my mid 60s and I STILL get dressed up in costume, decorate my yard, and stand out there the entire evening handing out candy to ANYBODY that comes by. I love seeing ppl celebrating Halloween, having fun, and I love doing it to. Alway have, always will.

Sometimes I've asked the teenagers if they know the thriller dance. And they do. And they dance it for me. I love it. Parents walk around with their young children and I give them candy too. This is about community. This is about having fun.

also you need teens to scare. I'm not going to pop out of a bush and make a kid under 13 cry. That's for the 14-18 year olds.

I’m with you! If your child, teen or young adult shows up at my door trick-or-treating they are getting a warm welcome and a mitt full of candy. Life is too short to not enjoy these moments.

This is the same logic that I apply to people bitching, as they will be very shortly, about "Christmas Creep." If someone needs the comfort of holiday decorating, in order to, say, assuage the onrushing anxiety of elections and the general increase in World Suck, I'm not gonna tap a calendar at 'em

One of the neighborhood teenagers stopped by the morning after Halloween and offered to save me from myself by “disposing of” our leftover candy. He saved my life! 😁

My “rule” is some kind of costume! One year I had a middle school kid come dressed as Steve Erkel, and 2 high school girls come as the twins in The Shining!! *chef’s kiss. They got extra candy!!! ❤️

Wait! Don’t we have a clown masquerading as a president in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Washington D.C.? Forget candy! He, his family and the GOP have been robbing the American people since his descent down the escalator!

Yesss! And I’ll tell them to come back at 9pm-ish and I’ll give them what’s left in the bowl cause I had 3 daughters coming back home with tons of candy - they come back and we’re all happy 😃

Exactly and they’re more than likely trying to support a younger family member. I wore a mask and went with my nieces and nephews and people gave me candy🤷🏻‍♂️didn’t ask

I'll be there! I'm *barely* out of my teens. (81) But I'd much rather have dark chocolate with almonds, if you don't mind. Caramel might take all the rest of my teeth. Oh! BTW, I'm going to disguise myself as an old person for my costume. Novel, eh?

We only gave to little kids. One year we had almost 500 kids and we said enough is enough. We gave out candy, small toys, stickers, and it became too expensive. Haven't shelled out in 5 years and parents are still dumping their kids off in our neighborhood.🎃👻

Wadr #KittyKatGirl, "Cafeteria Christians" celebrate "Halloween(a Hollow-Day)"with Beelzebub, however, Followers of "Jesus The Christ" DONOT! "CCs" dress their kids up as "GOONS & GOBLINS", but my query: what do THEY do with "JESUS" while whooping it up & palling around with Satan...inquiring minds?

I LOVE having the teens come to my door! They’re always a ton of fun, and most of them even have costumes. Even if they don’t they get treats. Life is sucky enough, let them have fun. At least they’re off their phones and walking around talking to each other!!

Kind of funny how we have a holiday where small children and grown adults can wear crazy costumes, but teenagers are not supposed to participate.

I dont know if it's just my town, but we always have teens trick or treating. We have adults, too. Fun shouldn't have an age limit. All I ask is for people to hand out little toys or trinkets, too. There are so many with special needs, sensory issues, or allergies. Let people of all ages have fun

Give them the damn candy! If I see a teenager helping their younger siblings trick-or-treating I give them a double shot of candy. They deserve it!

I have been known to tell them that they really need to make even a little effort at a costume. Kitty whiskers with Mom's eyeliner pencil maybe?
