this approach is a bad trend πŸ™πŸ‘Ž how are contributors supposed to know whether you even looked at a PR when every PR gets closed without comment there is no signal just close the PR with no comment - it signals you looked and you closed it it's how GitHub works and it works! this doesn't.

We are updating our AI Policy to reduce maintenance stress. All pull requests are now automatically closed, unless they are created by maintainers or users from an approved list of contributors. The PR is not lost. If the team decides the change is worth pursuing, we will reopen it.

I think adding friction is good. Help us triage the issue first so we approve your contribution instead of the other way around

That's the gimmick though. You don't get real contributors anymore, but only kids playing with the new toy, or bots. There's no real interest in fixing the bug. Not sure if you're a maintainer, but that's what we have *now*

I am, and I'm also trying to figure out how to stop the slop the best solution right now seems to me is configure Github to allow PRs from contributors only - add an issue template to "introduce yourself" and make them certify they are human

if you want to allow public PRs, your second best option is just close slop PRs without comment auto-closing adds confusion and insecurity for legitimate contributors - it breaks the most fundamental expectations about how GitHub is supposed to work πŸ™

if you auto-close with a "promise" to reopen real PRs, effectively all PRs start in a limbo where nothing even tells you if anybody looked at it that's unfair to real contributors and assuming you *do* look at every closed PR, it's exactly the same process & amount of work for you πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ
