Latest work on Vitest's istanbuljs fork removed Babel from coverage-istanbul. Instrumentation is now done with packages that Vitest dep graphs already have: magic-string and rolldown, similar to Vite's own SSR transform. Surprisingly this dep trim improved instrumentation speed 5-10x.

Ever wondered how a hashed filename ends up in your built JS, especially when the hash can't be known until the file is written? @sapphi.red of the @vite.dev core team starts from exactly that, and ends on what changed in 8.3. @viteconf.org starting in just one hour! viteconf.org

"It's even more tempting than before to just build something new in house, instead of the harder but more rewarding work of maintaining shared pieces." @patak.cat on what the new pace costs our ecosystems, and why the bridges may fall if nobody tends them. @viteconf.org - today 14:00 UTC

I deleted X long ago. There were enough reasons back then, and many more afterwards. And to be honest, this place has been way better for me (and I know for a lot of other folks, too). I had a ton of conversations, met new people (many IRL later, too), and it helped us build cool stuff together ๐ค

Itโs sad to see Deno being discontinued. However, I think itโs not all terrible. Deno pushed server side JS forward for everyone - Node copied many the standout features Deno had at launch in 2020, bringing them to the masses. Fetch, web sockets, web crypto, direct TypeScript execution, and more. ๐ซก

If you'd like to contribute to an oss project, don't focus on creating PRs. Help the maintainers triage issues and review existing PRs. Test beta releases, and give feedback about new APIs and features. Join the community and be around to help others. They need your care way more than your code now.

My AI contribution policy has been improved and is now part of ai-policy.dev, an open-source collection of AI policies. It's not a silver bullet. You can't enforce a policy programmatically, but it helps you and everyone contributing understand where your project stands.

Watching this Apple event tout how iPhones will soon be able to record ambient audio/conversations and transcribe "high level notes" for you. It's billed as private and end-to-end encrypted, but I think the bigger harm is the normalization of always-listening devices. It's creepy and not normal.
