I don’t think it does critics of that circle any favors to call it a “sex cult.“ Whether us boring, monogamous vanilla normies want to believe it or not, there are a lot of people who participate in polyamory, sex parties, etc. Calling it a cult as a result just costs people credibility.

it’s a sex cult because of the way it acts like a sex cult. I know lots of people who have group sex and are in polycules who are perfectly normal and cool. That is not what is happening here for a bunch of reasons, chief among them “huge amounts of money and power are involved.”

you stop being able to play the “we are but a smol bean polycule like anybody else in a coastal city” card when billions of dollars and vast power are involved

Honestly "cult" is probably generously downplaying the horror of an industry that has normalized the idea of boundary eroding sex parties attended by all the people who have control over your professional & financial future. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would push back on this, as someone who enjoys sex on drugs. You can't consent *while high*, but you can certainly concent to drug sex prior to getting high. You can get as granular as you want about what is and isn't okay. But sex on drugs is fantastic, and I'd hate for that to go away 😅

That is, in fact, why I said "while on drugs" because I was being pretty precise! However I would push back that part of consent is the right to revoke consent & once you are on drugs that becomes shaky ground and so I would call having sex with a stranger who is high a fairly risky idea.

I would say that intoxication makes it hard to tell if the other party is consenting, so best not to risk it. "You *can't* consent while on drugs" would mean that all sex between two drunk people is mutual SA, which is incorrect as a matter of law and runs counter to common sense IMO.

Yeah I'm not really worried about whether or not I'm doing a crime. I'm worried about whether or not I'm doing harm. I'm okay erring on the side of not doing harm even if the law says it's cool.

Yeah, that's my partner's feelings on the matter too. He compares it to drinking and driving. Sure, the first few times you do it might go "fine," but it only takes a moment of inattention to royally fuck up.

I feel the same way. The way you had phrased it came across as "consent is impossible", not "knowing the other party consented is a lot harder"; that was what I took issue with. If that wasn't your intended meaning, my apologies.
