Another alternative to try is HERE WeGo, as well. I've been using it for over a year now (after G Maps changed the Gulf name) and it has been pretty good. Has some nice features Maps doesn't, actually.

Google Maps, big, big mistake. I too will be downloading MapQuest. Nut cases in The White House don't get to rename our Great Lakes and shame on you for capitulating.

On Android you can't delete Google shit. (Switching platforms is...well...really hard after 15 years.) However, I went into the app in settings and *disabled* it. I have to imagine that registers with Google...

Google's AI: Strong supporters of the administration view the renaming as a patriotic assertion of U.S. interests and a message to Canada. MapQuest's viral declaration—"We’re not changing it"—and their subsequent release of a custom "name generator" tool were seen as left-leaning corporate activism.

🤣🤣🤣...

They down ranked Russian websites when the Ukraine war kicked off. Manipulating discourse, aka propaganda, is what Google are about. I expect they're probably doing the same over the Israeli genocide in Gaza. So I don't trust Duck Duck Go

can honestly say I don’t visit Russian web sites as I would think Putin would be connected and I support Ukraine. I manipulate my own discourse as I ca see you do too. Duck Duck Go for search opting not to have AI give me what it is fed and churns.

I trust Brave more than most but always found it a little basic and not as aesthetic as Firefox. A good non chromium alternative I found was a hardened Firefox fork called Librewolf. Which is what I'm using as I type this. Worth checking out

On the apple store. There are other platforms besides Apple. This is not worth hetting upset over. The next president will fix it. We rename stuff all the time.

Like many, I downloaded MapQuest and will not use Google Maps anymore. I dumped the Washington Post and Amazon Prime two years ago because of Bezos' behavior. Life has been just fine. Companies that don't stand up to Trump's vindictive, stupid, abusive behavior, are not worth supporting.

Here in Australia, Google Maps shows the lake in the map as being Lake Ontario, with the text overlapping the Canada/USA border on the lake. However, clicking on the text, or the lake itself on either side of the border, shows Lake Ontario (Lake America) in the search box field.

Trying co-map instead, still, love to see it. I still remember when MapQuest routed me to a ferry in the Canadian prairies. Of course this was before smartphones, so I wasn't left waiting for a ferry in a bus painted like a cow.

Let me go test something... ok I was able to send a review for 1 star but I didn't name drop Trump. Instead I emphasize that the app is giving out inaccurate info based on the user location for (very stupid) political reasons.

I did the same thing last year for a review and just mentioned the app names things incorrectly. Didn't mention Trump and never got that message. I also updated the review after this recent change.
