Herecin thecUSxit challenges the income and profit of the donors to our politicians so we will continue to shut down any efforts to bring down costs or solve climate change. 🤬😡🤡

One square meter on a sunny day can produce 1,000 watts of power if 100% efficient. But even at 10% we have more unlimited clean power than we can imagine ONLY if we want to collect it. Damn stupid fossil fuels idiots stuck in the 18th century!

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it" The Fossil Industrial Complex is fighting tooth and nail to obfuscate what you are saying. They are in the same position as Big Tobacco before them, and using the same tactics, on steroids

The headline should be, "The Sun is Having Its Star Turn." MAGA is a backward-looking cult. Solar, wind and battery storage are whooping up on coal, oil and natural gas. Breakthroughs in geothermal and nuclear could also hasten the demise of fossil fuel.

They aren't here and they aren't ready to go. Pricewise they are north of $20000 per kW for FOAK (before state assistance). I would say it's mostly hot air but it literally won't produce any meaningful hot air earlier than in 10-15 years.

A solar farm is being developed near my home with nearly 900,000 panels. Quite big them. I am hoping that these will be largely recyclable at their end of life. Imagine how many trucks will be needed to take them away.

Solar is still more expensive than using the utility grid for me. It’s about 50k to install enough panels to power my house, the savings would take about 20 years to pay itself back.

There was an election for the Public Services Commission last month in Georgia. There was 2% voter turnout. Our utility companies have no incentive to decarbonize their grids and provide cheaper energy to Americans because the American electorate doesn't care about that stuff sadly.

Here in Pennsylvania the ROI is 12 to 15 years. Probably because we have net metering so when my solar panels are generating more than I am using I am putting that power into the grid and getting credit for it at the same price per KH that I pay when I’m drawing from the grid.

Because you're getting ripped off by having to use locally made panels and high tariffs on imported parts. As others have said Australians pay about a third what Americans pay for similar sized systems

That person is telling what is objectionably acknowledged to be a lie. I do not understand his problem and nor do I want to understand it further. Renewables are a huge part of the solution.

Those of us in the renewable energy field have noticed. Renewable energy coupled with energy storage is deployable, creates jobs, and it's affordable. It's not perfect, but nothing is. Let's get on with this.

The problem is that it isn’t cost efficient when subsidies are needed. But continue doing the research to make renewables such as solar smaller, cheaper and aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Only then will the industry dominate.

Fantastic article and very engaging (nice writing). I had no idea that solar power generation was growing so rapidly (and even in Texas, oil capital of the US and the reddest of states). I do hope that nobody brings this to the attention of Trump - he’ll only f*ck it up!

Earth passed 1.5 it simply is too late. Buy some popcorn and relax. There is nothing that us humans can do any longer, it is past the point of no return. For those too dumb to understand: We are screwed, it is too late, tell yourself whatever you need to process the truth,it is what it is. #doomsday

Take away with your climate doomerism. You are pushing a narrative that is great for the Fossil Industrial Complex. Yes we are likely past the point of avoiding serious climate effects. But we are also accelerating at lightning speed. Giving up only helps the oilygarchy.

This is not that. There is no "doomerism" simple scientific facts. I understand that science, facts and words have lost meaning, so I understand your reply. The earth will experience increasingly violent events this will become "normal" but, the scale will keep on growing, slowly over coming decades

I beg to differ. It is a narrative pushed to make us give up. Forecasts are not absolute facts. What we are witnessing is an exponential growth of renewables, that may well replace much of fossil fuels in the next decade. We will likely breach many of the dangerous thresholds, but not apocalypse

any word on that research they were doing looking into the impact on the environment from blocking that much sunlight from bathing the ground? i recall reading about plans for massive floating islands being canceled because of the devastation from covering that much light from the ocean floor...

Well, hold on for the effects of the BBB. All of the forward looking science based Clean Energy tax incentives/credits and the Real Investors/Companies relying on the same, will be screwed over by the Whale Oil, Luddite MAGA Brains currently in charge. 2026 Must be a BIG "MAGAECTOMY" ..for democracy

That's only grid energy. Add carbon-neutral hydrocarbons from biomass & nuclear! Biomass + hydrogen + nuclear heat pushed through a refinery, and, TADA, all the liquid fuel needs met without burning fossil fuels & changing infrastructure Then, heat/transport energy could be carbon-neutral, too!

You fucking bastards, do you think I've forgotten how you ruthlessly hounded Joe Biden while kissing Trump's ass? Fuck you and your lousy magazine, the fascists you enable hate solar power, I hope you have a wonderful day with your filthy enabling. Oh yeah fuck you, fuck you twice.

Exactly when the Trump administration cancels all renewable energy initiatives making the US way behind the power curve (pun intended) and looking absolutely foolish.

Except for the US, where we're going backwards, relying on oil and coal. Meanwhile, China will outdo the US in solar panels and wind turbines. It's especially comical that Trump claims China doesn't have "windmills" wind turbines, when they actually have around 190,000. China will soon be strongest

Yea, the thing I wished they would do is use less farmlands and more parking lots and building roofs. Zero reason you cannot make a parking lot a solar farm. Park cars underneath, generate power. My car isn’t 115 degrees inside when I get into it.

Every farmer should install them on the roofs of the many buildings they have to shelter their livestock. It would generate enough electricity for their farm equipment so they don't have to wait on the delivery of fossil fuels. Plus they can make money with charging stations. Win win win.
