First pottery class done! Never done this before but I really enjoyed it and my instructor was impressed by my first attempts. I picked it up pretty quickly and made what I wanted (a yunomi 湯のみ) after my third attempt. It was then cut in half to better understand the process 😅

Goddamn! Just played the ELTA Defy All Gods demo on Steam and it is a banger of a game! A 3rd person melee metroidvania with the tightest combat controls and solid crunchy impacts. The game looks beautiful too with its VERY hand painted textures! What's more, its a rare game that isn't about humans.

That last point is somewhat important for me. There just aren't enough games that are sufficiently "alien" and otherworldly. Human characters and human interactions feel stagnant creatively. With an alien protagonist, you can explore new ideas and lore. ELTA feels fresh because of it.

Just finished watching the Deborah Ann Woll-lead forensic/police procedural horror. Yeah, that was a good one! Thankfully went in entirely blind to the plot barring whatever they showed in teasers and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely recommended for the spoopy season! Watch it blind!

Responding to this particular post…we need to remove “leadership” from our game dev lexicon (where necessary). Is it leadership to march a studio off of a cliff? Is it leadership to take massive pay raises when staff are laid off or furloughed? Is it leadership to misappropriate funding?

Going to give my own takeaway on the demise of Bioware, which still makes me very sad. The TLDR: Bioware was not killed suddenly by a private equity acquisition. It was slowly strangled by idiots who didn't understand what made Bioware great - some at EA but also some inside of Bioware leadership

One bright light in an otherwise AI-shite filled #SteamNextFest is The Road of Dust And Sorrow, an absolutely gorgeous pixel art survival action game where you play as a mother trying to keep her daughter safe, no matter the cost. Honestly, I think people should just stop putting demos out. You'd lose a lot less in sales by not giving people a playable thing versus shitfucks getting their hands on any code you may have so they can clone it. A genuinely horrible situation to be in, where marketing your game is already near-impossible. But the alternative is people NOT buying your game because there's a lesser version of it churned out by slop already out there, eating potential sales up.
