last month, before That Ad made it to air, I went down to Ohio to figure out why Vivek Ramaswamy seemed to be struggling so much in his home state. the South Asians of Columbus, the bored students of OSU, and the hecklers of the Cleveland 'burbs all helped me understand: slate.com/news-and-pol...

"His Harvard-and-Yale pedigree and debate-me-bro verbosity make him come off more like a snob than a man of the people." Maybe because he is one! For instance, he has repeatedly criticized Americans' math skills. There may be ways to do this that aren't insulting but it never occurred to him to try

so grateful to you for taking the time to meet and chat with me for the piece! bsky.app/profile/blmc...

this is a very good piece of on-the-ground reporting about Ramaswamy's campaign - I've seen the Ohio Democratic Party fumble the ball too many times to think his flameout is a foregone conclusion, but regardless of the campaign's outcome, it's an illuminating look at the racial politics at work here

Republicans love the Trump regime ripping families apart and sending many to possible death in random 3rd nations. But this one is big on Jesus!

This piece is great. Slate needs to send you into the thick of it even more than it already does. You have a real knack for interviewing actual people in their third places.

I appreciate that so much! I've def gotten some more on-the-ground opportunities in recent years, from my NYC backyard all the way out to Vegas, but now I'm getting much more of a knack for it and hoping to do even more fieldwork soon, with the support of good folks like yourself 🫡

I imagine his ethnicity impinges on this popularity with the conservative base. No matter how hard he tries to assimilate into the fascism.
