And here we are. He knows he is defeated. Expect the worst yet to come. “An evil man will burn down his own nation to rule over the ashes.” Attributed to Sun Tsu The Art of War.

Trump would eliminate public health and safety concerns for a dollar if he could. Everything in America is less safe because of the Orange Jackass.

"But in practice, the standard forced companies to take increasingly stringent radiation protection measures." in civics terms we call this "the whole fucking point"

I understand ALARA isn't perfect but the orange menace is doing this for data centers and his buddies. The new rules would allow some workers to receive 10 rem instead of 5 in any given year. He doesn't do anything that isn't a gift to industry and a big screw to workers.

Real talk, though. Donald can eliminate ALARA all he wants, but there are a few reasons the industry wouldn't abandon it. It's a core feature in all procedures we do. INPO and WANO, which are non-governmental watchdogs, also push ALARA heavily

The industry is slow by design. A rollout of reduction in dose allotments would take so long to implement that the next administration would have already re-instituted them by the time a roll out was complete. NEI guidance would need to be updated, which impacts training and certifications

Is eliminating ALARA a smart idea? Absolutely not. The industry has welcomed ALARA with open arms and adheres to it quite well. It has served well for a reason. Donald is just looking for things to slash so he can feel like he's done something I feel

There are many reasons WHY we’re not going to be killed by nuclear power…removing or significantly limiting one of those reasons could be a dangerous direction to take.

Because of course he is doing something stupid, yet again, that nobody in the civilized world has figured out how to stop a bloated, orange colored idiot without using violence.

Radiation hormesis is a myth, bud. The evidence we have doesn't support a little ionizing radiation being good for you. There's no reason to move away from the ALARA standard...except cutting corners.

Did someone make an argument for the validation of radiation hormesis somewhere or...? Pretty sure no one is making the case for it being "good for you" but rather "the dose makes the poison". And thar ALARA is based in fear, not science.

There's space between "every bit of radiation stacks up on you forever" and "radiation is good for you". And there's a difference between cutting corners and pulling back on being overly conservative. If the data supports adjusting standards, the lower costs make fossil fuels less necessary.

Yeah but they're not talking about scrapping LNT; they're talking about scrapping ALARA. I agree that there certainly are thresholds at low doses where the slope of the dose-risk relationship changes drastically, but *we do not have a good understanding of where they are*. Best to be cautious.
