About 25+ years ago I had a *mahoosive* programmable Sony remote for controlling up to about 12 devices with a huge LCD touchscreen (early touchscreen technology too so with a plastic coating and weirdly tactile).
It was great. It’s probably still in the back of a cupboard somewhere gathering dust.
That's no volume know, that's a jog/shuttle know.
You twist the outer ring to rewind/ forward the tape at speeds from 0.25× to 4x, depending on how far you twist [shuttle].
You spin the inner dial (with convenient finger detent) to step through individual frames on the tape [jog].
Nice. I figured it wasn't a volume knob, but knowing the specifics is cool. Tape technology is so wild. I have a logic controlled Sony tape deck. It was fun looking at the logic gates that read the audio output to allow for stuff like "track skipping".
Yes, in the sense that connecting two VCRs together allows for basic 'cut' editing.
If you want anything fancier, or to hook up 3+ VCRs together, you'd need a switch/fader and possibly a synch generator.
