eBay users! Don't ignore today's email, even though it looks like a boring standard update to the User Privacy Notice. They want to use your data to train AI models. If you click the link over the words "the right to object", it takes you to a page with a toggle button letting you opt out.

When I think back on the sandboxes of Ultima Online and Skyrim I think: - Big handmade map fully open from the start - Interesting things to see/do outside of combat/quests/levelling - You can mess with objects and NPCs What other PC games could I play to tick all those boxes?

Eye popping. Court just unsealed Summary Judgment motions in New York Times v OpenAI / Microsoft. Easy to see why the AI companies had so many redactions (pink). Their own people wrote the lede for NYT, the "largest theft of labor in human history"... "more and more substitutive..." /1

There are already articles circulating trying to rewrite history and say America was great after 9/11 and united and thoughtful and just a reminder that that period was marked by intense and insanely racist hatred, paranoia, and a frothing desire for unhinged violence and oppression.

tech ceos love to talk like it's impossible to know what the computer will do at any given time as if that's smart and powerful and amazing. the determinism was like, the best part of the computer though. removing the determinism is the opposite of smart. it's stupid

Blue Bottle Games, as a policy, does not use generative AI. It's something we've discussed as a team, weighing the pros and cons, and ultimately, we decided it was not for us. Recently, while chatting with a colleague, she mentioned it was useful hearing our reasoning. So: Sharing time! 1/12

This morning in Biddeford, Maine, a 26-year-old man said goodbye to his wife and daughter and left for work. Moments later he was dead, shot in the head by ICE agents, the second man ICE has killed in six days. ICE is killing our neighbors. ICE cannot be reformed. Abolish ICE.

Those not exposed to a right-wing environment may not know: Lindsey Graham was roundly despised by his own constituency for being a spineless, brown-nosing coward who was equally willing to suck up to Democrats whenever they were in power. He did anything to keep his state's 60% federal surplus.

A guy dropped his water bottle near me on the train, and when I handed it back to him he shook his head, put it back on the floor, and said: “It belongs to the world now.”

Among the layoffs was character artist Christiane Meister — a 27-year veteran of Bethesda and (as far as I can tell) one of the longest tenured women in games, period. She worked on Argonians + Khajiit in TES3, horses in TES4 and TES5, Fallout creatures, and more. (cont'd)

New: Researchers have quantified how easy AI search is to manipulate. Just 13 words buried in a random Reddit comment can poison AI search results. They suggest this is not easy to stop: "The way you can attack these systems is so much dumber than you think it is" www.404media.co/it-is-trivia...

Because I study war and conflict professionally, in the hope that by understanding it, we might have less of it - and the only way to do that is with a grim sense of humor, otherwise you end up curled up into a little ball of horror and depression, unable to function. Although I do that some too.

Fascism. Civil disobedience is not conspiracy. ICE agents kill people in cold blood in the streets and get transferred. Peaceful protesters sit in front of a bus and get 6 years in prison. Outrageous.

Khashoggi's Ghost@urocklive1.bsky.social

This is bad. Three Washington state protesters have been found guilty of federal conspiracy charges for sitting in front of a bus taking people to an immigration detention center in Tacoma, and now face 6 years. Six others took plea deals rather than going to trial. newrepublic.com/post/211138/...
