It’s the long shadow of Reagan that let Republicans own the framing of problems completely. Democrats especially during Clinton, more fully accepted this and flowed with it, Obama couldn’t break the gravity of it, but now it’s time to break from this and start to redefine the framing of our issues.

The problem was that Gingrich w/ his 'vilify Dems program' was beginning the process of making this unacceptable to the GOP and that GOP 'Party Of No' has gotten worse so much that as long as the Dem's proposed it even lightly retreaded GOP programs get shot down.

Yep. I like to say that several generations of Dem politicos view their purpose as sanding down the sharp edges of Republican policy, which to them is axiomatically what the American voters want without any reference to how they're actually voting/responding to issue polling.

Yep. Even framing policy as an individual benefit rather than a collective benefit is right-wing. "The electorate at large" would benefit as we benefit from K-12 education, even if we don't have kids. We live in a society. We share an economy. The people getting benefits are your fellow Americans.

Corn subsidies for farmers in Nebraska = protecting the heart land Feeding kids = shameless socialism from egotistical coastal elites

A lot of people don't see others outside of their group or their affiliates as Americans. The thought process is if they're not benefitting then the people benefitting from those policies are leeches and criminals.

Yes, it's the equivalent of people voting against education spending because "I don't have children" (or worse "my kids are grown up"). So it's ok for the next generation to be illiterate and unemployable? Who's gonna pay your Social Security?
