Walter Koenig, was, of course, Chekov. But if you want to honor his memory by watching some of his best(sorry) work, please check out his appearance as the evil Psi-Cop "Bester" in Babylon 5. He's a fantastic presence and a great foil to all of "our heroes." Fair skies, Mr. Koenig.

I have a friend who is a social worker doing the same work as this social worker. She has also told me stories of women like Amy Acton's mother.

With all the attention to Dawkins today, I think it's not bad to revisit this incident, Dawkins' supervillain origin story, as it were. Innsmouth is not wrong (and this is not a criticism of them), but what they relate here is usually as much as anyone remembers. But there's an extra layer here...

attracting media attention with "stunts" was literally the entire core of the civil rights movement. visuals of cops and other officials harassing, beating, killing organizers was pivotal. the civil rights movement would have gone wild for selfies and tweets.

"The Jews who went to Mississippi didn't take selfies and post tweets." Okay, but honestly, if tweets had been a thing in 1961, many of them probably would have done.

American chestnuts were a staple for 1,000s of years before imported blight fungus decimated them. The American Chestnut Foundation has been harvesting nuts from this orchard for more than a decade, with many remaining resistant enough to survive. A data center could be what finally takes them out.

If I criticize Israel for detaining a group of Jews for working in Palestine, am I being antisemitic? I need to know the rules.

I’ve been released from IDF custody with a “warning,” apparently because of my public profile (I told them I wasn’t even a congressmember yet, just a nominee). But several dozen rabbis & participants harvesting olives with me are still in detention.

This was how the “furries want litter boxes in schools!” hoax got ripped up and (mostly) died. People asked for proof, and every time a school got mentioned the administrators and teachers were quick to say, “No, wtf are you talking about?” Amazing what can happen when reporters ask for proof...

Kevin M. Kruse@kevinmkruse.bsky.social

Will any reporter ask the President of the United States to name the five specific states where he alleges that public school teachers are deciding -- all on their own initiative, over the objections of the parents -- to force their children into gender-affirming surgeries? Seems like a big story?

Once again, women working for Trump do not have any of the protection or extra chances that men do. (This is in no way meant to defend Noem/Wiles/etc...) But if your answer to "Why is the Trump admin doing X?" does not start with misogyny, racism, or both, you're usually missing the story.

Yeah, everything we're hearing about AI cyber threats we were hearing about IoT a decade ago, huh? And I wrote an article about IoT security years ago and it started out with quotes which very much sounded like warnings about IoT security but were in fact about Bluetooth in about 2001.

In my mind the defining feature of Trump II is that is ✨actually✨ a kakistocracy. RFK Jr and Russ Vought have very little in common politically, but they do share one essential quality: they are absolutely the worst person alive for the jobs they have.

Nick (derogatory) ✨@slothropsmap.bsky.social

This is right. Trump II is the worst administration in our history because Trump has no ideology beyond "evil" and is too lazy to govern, so he hands his power to whoever wants it. Every flavor of evil shows up, and each one gets the job where it can do the most damage.
