Judging from the replies, an astounding number of people still cannot grasp that "taking all the prominent liberal and progressive voices and putting them on a remote island where no ordinary people or institutions interact with them will reduce the political influence of liberals and progressives"

It's hard to avoid the conclusion that Bluesky has been a net negative for US politics. They corralled everyone on the left into a little glass fishbowl where they shout at one another & everyone else ignores them. Meanwhile, all the pols & institutions stayed on X & are being dragged farther right.

I don’t think people disagree with that so much as people disagree with the implication that keeping them in the torture chamber of X (where, let’s be clear, due to algorithm changes they no longer had any real influence anyway) would somehow have been better for anyone involved

The simple fact is the fascists won the information war. They had more funding, more reach, more volume, more corrupt nation-state support, and their disinformation & propaganda is ever-present and unavoidable. We can't out-yell them or counter all their lies. They can only burn themselves out.

Also, right-wing talking points are much easier to make, shorter, and easier to get people to believe, because they're so simplistic most of them are half-truths, at best. Whereas left-wing talking points usually take longer to lay out and require just a bit of education and critical thinking.
