Seriously one of my favorite "features". 😁 Is that where I report bugs btw? Just noticed that when I'm in the Reply view I can tap on the profile picture of the OP to open a new profile page in the background with each tap. 🤔

you can self host almost every core of Bluesky (PDS, Relay, Jetstream, PLC Directory) and that would work similar to how instances in Mastodon. The hardest and most expensive part is the AppView (creating something with AtProto that is not Bluesky or other version of Bluesky)

Gonna butcher this a little bit bc I'm not an engineer but I *believe* if you own the source code to a piece of software, that typically means you can edit, compile, and manipulate that software in any sort of way you want. You either wrote it or were on the team that did.

Often companies will not share the source code to maintain a competitive edge, but we’re a Public Benefit Corporation and the core of our mission is to create a network that lasts longer than our company. We believe we can find sustainable revenue while sharing the code and network!

Lmao "Here's the code btw" If any other social media app had their code leak they would probably go on red alert. Makes you wonder what they don't want people to see

But it's not enough to gain new users, you need to retain them. And to do that, you need to make it easier to use, and make it closer to what they already know. There should be no learning curve for beginners. Those features that are popular in the other trash need to be available here.

Right now they get funding through raising funds like startups. I am not too knowledgeable on that but know they just raised 10-15 million. I believe at this time their *only* revenue stream is selling domains so people can use those for their username here. Obviously that is not enough.

yep I think it's the big question on everyone's minds. They've been up front that they won't let people pay money to get their post at the top of replies or anything, and that's my biggest concern. Some ads I can live with.
