Low-key one of the most satisfying parts of learning to do research in biology is getting a sense of biological scales. Developing a mental concept for how to compare sizes of different biological objects as if I’m learning a language. It’s been very satisfying!

Acknowledging that things are getting worse is a basic admission of reality. It's why contemporary populism is apolitical; you can acknowledge and address the root cause (capital), or scapegoat with immigrants/minorities/etc Just cuz the analysis is wrong doesn't mean the problem doesn't exist
