Joyless scolds aren’t new. They dont have a point. They will always show up when somebody is having fun so they can take that away. It’s a weird antisocial behavior and we shouldn’t give them the w

People who aren’t using AI to code at this point are delusional or lying, trying to ride a horse down the highway and backing up the traffic instead of asking “what can we do to make cars safer and electric.” They have no ethical high ground

Yes, stealing the consumed, unlicensed, uncredited work of tens of thousands of past programmers is way faster than doing the work yourself. And definitely won't have any downsides longer term.

programmers have been publishing code for free and open usage for quite some time now, it's kind of a core ethos of the community

these insane engineers even made tools specifically to do it, `npm install {code-you-want-to-steal}`

Yeah man I'm def talking about using zlib or whatever and not about stealing code. That's def that the image was talking about.

It's not a problem when people "steal" ideas and implementations from each other as devs and artist did forever. The problem when company do this, makes money on it and don't share it back with the original creators

So what about when a dev starts a company and uses open source software to make money?? Are you saying they have to pay the creator of the open source software even when the license says they don’t have to?

They can keep improving the open source product instead. By doing this their salaried devs are effectively working on it. So far it was rarely the case. Usually a big tech like Amazon keeps all improvements for themself by either exploiting (in the moral sense) the permissiveness of the license
