If you use GMail, AI (Gemini) was turned on yesterday by default and now scans all of your content for machine learning. To turn off, go to Settings>General and scroll down. Uncheck the box for "Smart features." There's other "Smart" add-ons as well, but that's the one that reads your content.

When I turned that off, the tabs "Updates, Promotions, Social, InBox" were deleted by default. The tabs that existed BEFORE Gemini. #rage

Investigating whether or not there's a hack to restore those without training genAI. GDI! It's under "In Box" that you *must* turn on genAI. My drafts... Contracts... Proprietary... NO. ><

Totally understand the reaction -- the setting, however, doesn't have anything to do with training (Google doesn't train on private Gmail conversations). By "scanning", it passes the content to an ML model, and uses the result to classify your email. It doesn't store anything else.

They say. It very much appears that "we don't train AI on this!" has, at this point, surpassed greenwashing as a topic of corporate lying.
