I've heard that it's possible the cube is Metatron's cube. There seems to be a mix of different mythologies in this one, so for me, it's very welcome, it gives a new adventure feeling.

If I had a nickel for every time a supporting character from a wildly popular nerd show (that had already been adapted into a less popular movie) went on to star as the protagonist of a God of War game, I'd have two nickels. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it's happened twice.
