ALSO THIS, which is so well-put. (And I swear this is the last thing I'll say about the word discourse.) To me is it not really the 'I don't know this word' that bugs me, it's the ask. You do not get to ORDER UP what an artist provides! You get what you get! When did this change?!!??

Well yeah. I hate when a character suddenly drawls or says something lowly, but I’m not going to tell the author that their person has made a bad choice in line delivery. Because I’m probably hearing it wrong in the first place.

I have ended up subscribing to a lot of author newsletters because of author promos (get a free book with newsletter signups). Some of the authors put polls in their newsletters asking their readers what they want to read next. I want to reply and say "oh, honey, NO, that way lies madness".
