Happening now: After what he says was a widely watched episode of his podcast on the issue, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick vows to go after “filthy” books and the “leftist” American Library Association. “We’re not banning books,” he says. “Taking them out of our schools is not banning books.”

Patrick now threatening schools who don’t pull books. Says they will pass a law that knocks them down a grade rating if they haven’t done so.

Patrick was joined by Bonnie Wallace, a rightwing activist who has compiled a list of +2K books for removal. Like Patrick, she insists this is not about banning books (and goes out of her way to argue so, including on the back of her business card)

The activist pictured here, Bonnie Wallace, maintains a list of +2,000 supposedly inappropriate books. Among those rated 4 or 5 out of 5 for obscenity: Love in the Time of Cholera; All the Light We Cannot See; Perks of Being A Wallflower; Handmaid's Tale; and Elliott Page's memoir.
