Sure, but we need to keep in mind the 10s of millions of Americans who will never drive a vehicle if it has ANY association with liberals or environmentalists. If they need an over engineered monstrosity to get into an EV and show their friends that EVs are better than ICE, then let’s go.

Due to moving to the country I bought my first used pick-up in 2021 (2009 Tacoma), chosen because it was smaller than the average truck. I’m encouraged by Hyundai’s Santa Fe and the Ford Maverick. I’m running this one to the ground as long as gas is available but hoping for smaller EVs soon.

going from the US to NZ is wild: literally every work truck is a Hiace van (although in Auckland there's starting to be more presence of larger pickup trucks .... but the Hiace is so convincingly space efficient and resilient that I wonder if they won't really catch on)

the NZ version of U-Haul is coyly named after the van (Hireace) one can get them by the hour literally anywhere. very useful vehicles

I noticed that, too, when I visit. Tradies and such use those flatbed Utes, not the overtestosteroned US trucks. Usually the biggest trucks are Amaroks. Rare to see a big American pickup.

honestly if they electrified the maverick it would be the perfect truck for all these people who to do truck things besides towing

The problem is the size not the batteries. The batteries dictate larger vehicles for the most part but there should just be an acknowledgement of how lethal modern truck sizes are. Those lifted idiot trucks should be uninsurable if not explicitly illegal.

With a Honda Fit (~100 hp), aftermarket hitch reciever ($300 installed, and the Harbor Freight light-duty folding trailer ($530, this model limited to 50mph) I can haul literally anything I have ever seen in the bed of an F350.

Pre-ordered R1S several years ago (only electric SUV at the time). Still hasn't been delivered. Now there's more options on the market. AUDI suv looks promising.
