I've been well aware of this reality for years but I was still shocked to learn some time ago that 40 PERCENT of freight shipping is fossil fuels

I'll essentially just walk through the whole "you only buy the solar panels and batteries once and then they harvest energy from the sun for free" thing, contrasting it with "can't stop slurping oil outta the ground or all the machines stop" and stare intensely at camera while I ask which is better

Try cruise ships too, completely non-essential. They comply with the IMO regulations on sulphur emissions by using scrubbers: trading air pollution for water pollution. #banscrubbers

To think that the White House had solar panels installed in 1979, and then Reagan got elected and dismantled them, is maddening. Drill baby drill didn't just start yesterday. Name one war ever started over solar panels.

Not to defend Reagan, but they were solar water heaters installed during the energy crisis. They were removed for unrelated roof resurfacing and Reagan opted not to have them reinstalled because we weren't in an energy crisis at that point.

This of course means the fossil fuels r an even bigger problem than we thought. Why wouldn’t Exxon Mobil, etc. just use their unlimited $ 2 start buying up these renewable companies? It’s the way of the future. It is a propeller plane. Renewables are a Boeing 707. 7 hours versus 3 hours. 1950 again

When i lived in Hawaii, I was stunned that 90% of our power was baes on oil shipped in by tanker! It has improved some, but still a disgrace at weakly and slowly they adopted green energy. Lots of cronyism in the (mostly Democrat) government.

This dynamic is somewhat confounded by the process that creates the marine bunker oil that cargo ships use. Bunker oil is already the bottom column byproduct of the refinement process. That is to say, it’s economically efficient as a marine fuel because we make a gobs of it by happenstance.

If every gas pump visualized how many gallons jugs of fuel, let’s say milk jugs, you just put into your vehicle, we might improve society somewhat. I went to the grocery after the gas station and counted 17 gallons of milk and was like “I go through 17 gallons of gas a week” and felt bad.
