Apropos of absolutely nothing, has anyone ported Kubernetes to the browser? Yeah I know it makes no sense and probably wouldn’t work but if you know of any attempt I’d love to see it. I couldn’t find any, they all delegate to some cluster running on a server somewhere and that’s not what I want.

Now I'm wondering if you could stand up a browser window as a node, and do a lightweight SETI-style thing just by getting people to visit a URL and contributing their computing resources

Ha! That would be fun. I want to get my lil port to the point where I can point kubectl at it and it works.

“Are you asking because you’re considering doing it?” What?! No, no of course not. That would be mad. I’m asking because… because uh…

I will preface this by saying it is VERY EARLY, it is EXTREMELY ROUGH, and I am HANDWAVING MOST OF IT, but… I have a faux etcd, an API server being watched by a bunch of lil controllers managed by a controller manager. I’m not pulling real containers, it’s a faux CRI. No CNI or storage.

I’m trying to get enough of Kubernetes to simulate and visualise different probing configs, and I want it to be real enough that it’s somewhat representative of what you can expect to happen on a real cluster. Still lots of open questions about how I’ll test/verify that. I’m having fun tho.

Just from that one clip you shared this looks highly like a Jerome Petazzoni course I did at LISA one year which was AMAZING. Knowing how thorough your deep dives are this will be huge.
