I don't _need_ a new iPad mini, but OLED, Pencil Pro support and 40g lighter might just sway me… Disappointing it's not ProMotion though.

The power of Filippo: The Lobsters community is now (kind of hilariously) tearing itself apart over Filippo deactivating his account.

After 10 years, I disabled my lobste.rs account. I think it's clear I am not a culture fit anymore with whatever it is they have going on there. I feel more and more like I don't belong in almost any tech community because I believe LLM agents are real, passkeys are good, and fascism is bad.

Pro: Anyone can buy a first class train ticket, which means I can travel in first class. Con: Anyone can buy a first class train ticket, which includes tattooed Millennial who sounds like he's dying, and a pair of American guys who keep playing videos out loud on their phones.

Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

Amazon users are discovering a bizarre "About You" page that reveals what the company thinks it knows about them One woman found Amazon had determined she "has flat buttocks"

It's been a particularly gruelling week at work so I finished Friday by… doing an extra long session on the spin bike? What is wrong with me?

God I would pay actual money dollars for a TV that just functioned as a HDMI to photon converter. I don't want much. I just want to see the photons from the HDMI frames with basically zero latency.

I’ve now lived so much longer than I would ever have expected to that I feel I’m living in the future. This is when I imagined Neuromancer happening. And now the creators of today’s AI warn us that it threatens humanity.

Am I remembering right that this is basically Mr Beast's fault? Something about him using his massive platform to A/B test lots of different expressions and coming up with this being the most click-baity.

I'm a simple man. If a YouTube video cover has a stunned face on it, I don't watch the video.

Ooh, Apple Watch Series 12 Night Blue ceramic looks nice. Maybe it's my upgrade year after all. My current S6 is also blue and I'm always sad when they take colour options away.

Today is Bandcamp Friday! For 24 hours, we waive our revenue share, so even more of every purchase goes to the artists and labels behind the music. Go forth. The music is waiting: https://bit.ly/4gECRzG

"Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word." Sure, but can I make fun of American vowel pronunciations 🙃 Worcestershire = WOOS-te-shuh Omnipotent = Om-ni-po-tent (short O, vs. American long; ni not emphasised) (I would probably also pronounce macabre with a slight rolled R.)

Merriam-Webster@merriam-webster.com

macabre = “muh-KAHB” Worcestershire = “WOOSS-ter-sheer” omnipotent = “ahm-NI-puh-tunt” reticent = “RET-uh-sunt” epitome = “ih-PIT-uh-mee” myriad = "MEER-ee-ud" Never make fun of someone if they mispronounce a word. It means they learned it by reading.

Look, it's bad enough that I talk to myself while I'm working, you don't need me actually talking *at* the computer. (I get there are people with legitimate need for this but I suspect they are not the intended consumer of this somehow.)
