This advice is important now, and will be even more important in two weeks, when the next administration is going to flood the zone with horribleness, with the intent of overwhelming everyone into compliance. Pick your battles and keep your focus. Trust others are doing the same elsewhere.

Also, be aware there will be some people who might be upset that you're not fighting the fight they want you to fight, or fighting it they way they want you to fight it. Be aware that is a "them" problem and not a "you" problem. You know where you can be best useful. Be useful there.

I don't know if you remember this, but when I asked on whether it's better to read translations or the original novels, I was also thinking in incremental terms. I don't think that I can change the world, but that things I do a incremental. Just trying to get some right 60% of the times.

And if people are unsure about where they are best useful, they should look to the groups that have been working hard to solve systemic problems for a long time. They're out there, they just need our help to keep fighting!

This is stellar advice. It's particularly hard to do in a media form (like this one) that rewards outrage and bad news with clicks, but it's really essential to getting anything done. It's the attention economy, and the model almost demands that people attempt to hijack your attention

Thank you. We have been talking a lot about media banning (books and television). It is going to be important to be both loud and quiet (quietly subversive) at the same time. Picking a hill(s) to defend and battles to fight and not letting oneself get distracted from doing the actual work.

The absolute worst thing you can do right now is watch cable news. Opinion debates about his horrible things are beyond your control. Make the difference you can make in the world. If it’s important enough to warrant your attention it will be here.

It may not even be "most meaningful" but "most available." Did I choose to prioritize homelessness? Not really, but when people came to live in the yard of my church, that obviously became where my energy had to go. It doesn't mean other struggles aren't meaningful to me, but this one is at home.

Starting locally isvital and incredibly important They are in your community and helping each other will lead to better outcomes together. This will also build your network and experience in order to help with other problems, if that is what you want to do.

💯 this. The congregation I serve has worked on is figuring out what our people are best at and what our resources are. We work at feeding people and making quilts, because that’s where our talents are. To the extent we can, we support others in the work they’re good at doing.

I think the first major battle is reversing Citizens United. Only when government is for the people and not beholding to big corporations, all these battles will have a reasonable chance. It may be the biggest battle, but it would be worth it.
