The push for Harry Potter the TV show is going to be completely enormous—they're debuting it on fucking Christmas—and it is the responsibility of TV critics to contextualize this as rewarding the world's most transphobic billionaire (which is saying something) in everything we write about it.

It's mostly going to be covered like a normal television show and that will be really depressing but if you have the power to remind people their little treat comes dripping with blood you must do so.

I just want to say that I realize I have it easy, to the extent being full-time freelance for 13 years makes anything "easy." I have the luxury of choosing what I cover and can mostly run my mouth at will. I understand many TV writers' and editors' employers aren't going to give them that choice.

I have a feeling that if my family gets together for a holiday thing around xmas, somebody is going to try and throw it on and I'll have the choice of loudly making a stink about it or making a show of leaving the room.

That's gonna be a big thing: The movies are crap but they already exist and they can be watched in less time. Not to mention the people who might be interested in the show already probably have fond memories of those movies and might just default to them...
