I remember the landlord of a room I rented in Finsbury Park in 1980 speaking in much the same terms. Man, if all your tenants could do what you did, you wouldn't have all that juicy income, so shut the fuck up.

Am so glad I never read the article and just judged instantly… Saved me getting high blood pressure bsky.app/profile/emms...

I haven’t bothered to read the article because I haven’t had enough coffee and I can’t deal with this level of smuggery

If someone is selling advice on getting rich the way they did, that proves that it no longer works, as selling advice is more lucrative and they wouldn’t want the competition. It’s not a statement of success but an admission of desperation.

When he bought his first home, the ratio of average salary to average starter home price was 3.6 times. It's now 4.7 times. And nowadays there are very very few 100% mortgages. So no Samuel, it's not that easy.

Still, you have to admit though that if every single person in the country was a landlord who lived in Dubai then everyone would be rich, making a fortune from their tenants who are also landlords living in Dubai.

Don't forget simple survivorship bias. 99 out of a 100 who attempted what he did would likely have failed and never been heard of again. His being the exception is as relevant as the 100 year old who puts their longevity down to smoking 30 a day.

Oh come now, it’s “no questions asked” money for the little lady so we know that he’s not beating the shit out of her for that reason. Until he starts asking questions, that is. (not saying he is, but there’s a Tate, I mean type).

I'm betting if there was a mortgage, it was also in his step dad's name. Banks don't often lend 100k to 17 year old paper boys regardless of LTV. So either Daddy gave him a house or they commited bank fraud.

This guy is famous for boosting about his money and trolling those who disagree with it. All the points raised about him are valid, but the less traffic any articles about him get, the better.

Step one: be 17 in 2009. Step two: buy a £100,000 house with 100% bank financing immediately after the global financial system has fallen through its own arse. Step three: because you're too young to own it legally, have your stepdad go on the deeds. Why, many are asking, aren't Gen Z doing this?

The interview doesn't explain what the lender understood about that arrangement, which feels like quite an interesting detail to glide past. But never mind. By 20 he had seven properties, helped by buying when, in his own words, sellers couldn't sell and were trapped in negative equity.

To recap the universal wealth formula: • be 17 during the aftermath of a historic financial crash • obtain 100% property finance • have a family member able to hold the property legally • acquire distressed assets • wait Young people simply don't want it enough.

He didn’t obtain 100% finance is my understanding. He said he borrowed 80% of the value because the seller was taking a loss. Tricky to get banks to agree to that in my experience (I work in a bank fwiw), especially in 2009. But I’d agree with everything else you’ve written.

He also says blaming landlords for high rents makes no sense because “the market determines the price”. My brother in Christ, YOU ARE THE MARKET. The rent isn't delivered to your house each morning by the Bank of England's weather balloon.

According to legend The Ramblers Association organised a mass trespass of some estate in the 1930s and the Duke of Wherever personally confronted one: 'Get off my land!' 'How did it become your land?' 'My ancestor fought for it!' 'Fair enough - [takes off coat] I'll fight you for it right now'.

OK so he says he gives £20k / month to charity which is a good thing and deserves credit, but the rest of his “I did it so anyone can” bullshit? What a muppet.

So basically, he appears not done much work for his wealth. All of the renters have paid for his living. Young people have no excuse??. So who is actually going to do any real work, so as to earn wages to feed jhis like. Doctors, Teachers, Train Drivers? His capitalism will eat itself?
