this is absolutely how doing math with ai feels these days. incredible read. my addition is that there is a VAST UNTAPPED POTENTIAL for explaining math with video/audio/interactive things that ANYONE can mine with ai help right now.

That reminds me, a good while back I wanted to make a video about Wazewski's principle but found manim too frustrating to use, so I put the idea aside I can probably just bang it out with Claude now

for "introductory" concepts (anything in a textbook), you can make an explainer video using frontier models right now with a prompt like: > let's make a math video explaining [X]! could you use manim, maybe choose a custom font for fun, and make a [N] minute video about it. i trust your judgment.

and that's not even getting to "artistic" uses of this. for example, you can ask a model to mix mathematical concepts with literary concepts to produce new ideas. or you can translate from theorems to songs. bsky.app/profile/shim...

as above, compose below. probably the world's first occult category theory music video verified by lean.

an attempt to visualize the monster group bsky.app/profile/shim...

how can something like the Monster group possibly exist? _yet it does_ i made a mathematical music video about it: 26 sporadic groups, 196,884 dimensions, branching paths computed from real Monster symmetries. finite. constructed. intruding into reality.

does this actually work? my expectation would be that this results in visuals are optimized to look pretty rather than for pedagogical purposes, and that it would end up being harder to follow than a pure text writeup.

for me it sort of depends on the subject. i like to read text, and i can imagine things moving on many kinds of static diagrams. but, as diagrams get complicated, the animated aspect and the ability to sequentially highlight things starts to be really nice for the explainer video.
