The same happened to swiss weapons manufacturers. And everyone on here was telling that EU countries wont buy from swiss anymore, thanks to their "no weapons to Ukraine policy". Guess what, two years passed and those same EU countries are all good with em. Same thing will happen here.

I think it really just boils down to Trump making impulsive, unilateral decisions to stop honoring US commitments. If the best our allies can do is hope that the US honors defense commitments, they can’t risk being hung out to dry on the whims of a feckless president. The US is not trusted.

It is quite simple. He demands money be spent on arms. Then he fucks about with tariffs. Better if they spend said money at home (think MAGA but for EU). Brilliant strategy from Trump.

One'd be a fool to put any trust in a country that's lead by a mercurial narcissist who'll change policies on a whim based on whoever flatters him last. Or a country where the leader's allegedly in thrall to an adversary. Both describe the US at this time. Other nations are not led by fools.

Elbridge Colby is proof that a wealthy background and nepotism can mean that an absolute moron can be elevated to a position that he's both completely unfit for and continues to broadcast that he's a stupid man's idea of a smart person.

PM Carney: "Those whose politics is to destroy, to demolish, dismantle, they're not going to change their instincts. This is their moment. We can't answer them by pining for an old order that's not going to return ... it can only be answered by positive action, by building that which comes next."

Gonna keep pointing this out

The author of Canada's national defence policy, who now works at the US Department of War, considers Elbridge Colby a man of deep insight. Elbridge Colby thinks Spain should be suspended from NATO. Also, he lobbied against Ukraine aid. Don't complain or you're helping Putin (and Xi). 🤡 #cdnpoli

But, but, but Trump demanded we spend more money on defence. He also started fucking about with tariffs. So the EU decided to spend the money in the EU. He remains a master strategist.

Didn't his Orange Majesty muse openly about selling "toned down" US weapons systems to allies, so they would stay dependent and under the US thumb? And, if I recall, he openly threatened the sovereignty of both Greenland and Canada. Gosh, who would have thought that might have consequences?

On a purely economic basis, the Trump antagonism to its allies is idiotic and counterproductive. NATO members (like Canada) buy billions of $ of arms from US military suppliers. Now they’re turning elsewhere.
