Respectfully, I hope you're proven wrong because writing code remains fun when typed manually & sometimes when slightly complimented by LLMs, but if it becomes the norm, being a SDE would suck. you would work on 10x projects and make less money. I hope human creativity remains inimitable.

Yes, that is true we are able to produce more and llms do help in understanding code bases very quickly, so our productivity is up, yet this does not seem to lead to better morale or any rewards. Its also becoming hard to stand out as everyone has new demos and vibe coded simple projects now.

Happy 2026 - really enjoy your blogs - keep them coming :) Re: conformance tests - you might enjoy this github.com/ahoward/tc - Dead simple testing language-agnostic testing framework - Just write input.json/expected.json pairs in scenario folders! Clean! Full disclosure - I just found it!

I think we mostly solved it for web browsers running JavaScript and WebAssembly - and hosting providers have had to solve it for a long time for things like AWS Lambda and VPS shared hosting I want that for everything else!

It seems like a "good enough" solution if like me, you're not working with any sensitive data in your development environment and exfiltration isn't much of an issue. But maybe I'm overly optimistic.

Insightful as always! My prediction is more modest: during 2026 NotebookLM infographics generator will figure out how to place these predictions on a graphical timeline correctly.

I didn't think today's models were quite up to the task, and I thought it would take a while for the skills needed to use models in this way to become widespread enough for people to take this on
