For me, the tech aspect of scifi would be important. I feel like the genre doesn't lean into technological horror as much as it should.

I think an exponential tension ratchet works really well. A slow drip of threats until it's a torrent. That fits in any genre of course but it *feels* super sci-fi

-feeling small -feeling isolated -loss of sense of self -untrustworthy senses -a danger that feels ever present but rarely shows itself

Diminishing choices as time advances. Like light limiting how much you can do or sanity diminishing as it gets darker.

Cosmicism. I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft, and to me the best parts of horror are just that: less terror than dread.

Tough call but off the top of my head something like among us where the ship is sabotaged and even if the monster doesn't get you the system issues might.

I tried writing a homebrew for tier 1 characters that involved a vampire spawn acting like a Xenomorph from Alien. I wanted ambushes, stealth attacks, moving through secret passages to always come from behind. Unfortunately, due to time constraints, it didn't work that way.

hmm, i would want want for the key fantasy part (space travel, alien species, bio-techno weapon, etc) should to cause a horror problem (psychic terror, annihilation, etc) and also be involved in the solution (psychic defense, magical power, bio-techno antidote, etc)

I'm a big fan of the gothic troupe of holding a mirror to humanity and show who the real monsters are. I started to run a vampire the masquerade game and I'm gonna focus on the personal horror part, battling with Hunger and keeping your humanity

Confusing the players about what the characters are experiencing or even where they are. Sort of like an old school "no map" experience
