The effects of unfettered capitalism are 100% fucking evil.

Considering we change or we die, yeah. The way we're doing Capitalism is evil. The problem is it's a functional system operating on its own logic without looking at the bigger picture. The bigger picture is mass destruction, leaving future generations with a deadly mess to clean up.

Ironically, “unfettered” capitalism might not be quite as evil as the thumb-on-the-scales hybrid we have now, that allows substantial unfair competition contrary to capitalist access to marketplace principles. Or perhaps that’s just semantics.

Humans are driven by to opposing interests. We have a need to be self interested in order to survive. Greed for another word. But we are a social species. We depend on connecting with others and having empathy for each other. Altruism in another word. Capitalism is just purified greed.

It has infiltrated our government, and the consequences will be catastrophic. America has spent so many years hyper focused on communism, that it has grown complacent to another evil that has been knocking on our door for several decades.

Trillions in offshore trusts. This is why America has a rapidly dissolving middle class (as does the UK and Canada etc) and why conflict is rife by design to make this system always/permanently available to the owners of these trusts.

Which, if we had any decent civics lessons in school, we would know. See also: child labor, Shirtwaist factory fire, Upton Sinclair's The Jungle.....ad nauseum.

True. Capitalism has done some good. But it needs socially responsible guidance, rules, and laws to truly work for all. We have experimented enough to see that a mix of strict socialist aims to curb greed and ideology is workable, while lawless Wild West die by the sword tactics do not. Not hard.

Guess that’s correct . There is something very sinister in the way public companies are structured to to constantly grow . Public Companies are more like a viruses than human beings .

This is not really true. It's because we haven't seen capitalism. What we have today is a mix of oligarchy, corruption, some socialism, and regulation, often attempting to fix things it doesn't understand or fix. TRUE Capitalism is about sustaining your balance of profits, labor, & resources.

The issue is that the basis of capitalism remains, which is to accumulate and concentrate wealth. A fettered capitalism still features inequality, and the wealthy will use their wealth to disproportionately influence government to unfetter capitalism to their benefit. It's happening in Europe now.

I never claimed it was perfect, just the best we’ve come up with so far. Any system that doesn’t account for human shortcomings is bound to fail. Combining carefully regulated capitalism with European style collectivism works reasonably well. Equivalency of outcome is a pipe dream.

I do not advocate for equality of outcome. Capitalism inherently concentrates wealth. This infringes on democracy. A system that makes it impossible to be as rich as one billion people combined is how we will ensure society remains democratic. Capitalism is not the system to support for democracy.

If govt will always become subservient to big business, then the solution is democratizing the workplace. No reason the place we spend most our lives should be an authoritarian type hierarchy. End private ownership of the economy. Let workers decide how to allocate their profits/ vote for leaders.

Oligarchy & Capitalism at its worst. America seems to have let it happen & really there is only one way to fix it. Like you did when you got rid of a king. Only this time, write a Constitution that works for everyone & is not so easily misconstrued. Or enables the establishment of a corrupt SC.

Key word “unfettered.” When we stop thinking of every “-ism” as a religion and turning every difference of opinion into a holy war, maybe we can start to find a workable balance.

I’m strictly a “Two cheers for capitalism” gal. Without government oversight, without regulation, without mitigation of the harms through a social safety net, without organized labor, capitalism is a nightmare.

Yup. Capitalism (and human greed as a whole) needs to be kept in check with STRONG and comprehensive regulations. Otherwise it eats everything it can and we're all worse off. Including the profiteers and enablers. Their blowback just takes longer.

We knew this as kids. We played Monopoly. In a world where Monopoly is the rule...what happens in the end game? Well, all of the people who can't afford the rent, and can't afford to pay the cops...and a bank holding all of the money....and none in the hands of people...this happens:

Billionaires scooped up Boardwalk and Park Place decades ago. Now we’re desperately clinging to Baltic Avenue and hoping not to get slammed by rent. That’s real life, 2024 edition!
